Strawberry for you, Sir? Mint for you, Mdm? How about chocolate, wild berry or green tea? Toothpaste manufacturers have gotten so creative over the years that there are now all kinds of flavored toothpaste. I don't suppose you eat toothpaste for lunch but I suspect some of us regularly consume it for breakfast or supper. How so? Well, of course I don't mean that you squeeze some toothpaste onto a plate and cut it up with a fork and knife like you are eating a steak. What I mean is what happens to the toothpaste after you brush? I don't know how many times you gargle but I gargle umpteen times just so that I can rid my mouth of the toothpaste taste. Usually though, no matter how intense my gargling is, there is still a residual taste. But I have at least satisfied myself that I have already tried my best. I may like a particular flavor of toothpaste but that doesn't mean I would want it for breakfast! What about you? Do you enjoy eating toothpaste? How many times do you gargle to get rid of the taste? Just once? A few? 20 times? Or do you perhaps brush without toothpaste? Do share your thoughts. :D

I can't remember if I had a certain affinity for any type of flavored toothpaste when I was a little girl. Not one adult in the family taught us the proper dental hygiene. What I am using now is the organic type of toothpaste. No flavor and preservative-free. It cost two times the amount of a regular toothpaste. I have no choice. The regular toothpaste tends to give me rashes all around my mouth area. I never count the no. of times I gargle. Just gargle until I'm satisfied that my mouth is squeaky clean. :)

I don't fancy those with all kind of flavors. The manufacturers have created all kind of flavors to entice users but at the end of the day only the original flavor of colgate remain the best.

Mmmm....not exactly a good idea to eat toothpaste....fluoride is downright dangerous..ever notice the warnings on toothpaste tubes about swallowing too much to contact the poison control center? So nope never eat/swallow toothpaste but rinse out my mouth a lot until I get the paste all out of my mouth

I don't even use it most of the time. Dentists did a study and found no real use for toothpaste. You can brush your teeth without it just fine and it won't hurt a thing. So I don't usually waste my money on it. Unless they come up with chocolate toothpaste, I'll brush with just water!

Sure I'm serious! Toothpaste is just a commercial product that the companies have convinced us we need. Ask your dentist. The only value in toothpaste is its floride and only if you don't have floridated water does it do you any good. When I do want something to shine up my teeth I use baking soda ($.89 a box and it lasts a year). My dentist says if I must use anything, that's the best thing. All my dentists over the past 5 years have said the same thing about toothpaste.

We don't seem to have all this interesting flavours in the UK, I'm quite disappointed! There's usually different types of mint, or a strawberry-esque one for children. I would love to try eating some wild berry toothpaste! I can't brush my teeth without toothpaste because they don't feel clean. I brush them three times a day, at least, and never try to get rid of the taste, as that is what makes me feel like my teeth have been cleaned.

I now use a calcium carbonate based natural formula toothpaste for this very reason. I found the chemicals in toothpaste are just too strong for me. Many of the chemical contained within toothpastes are carcinogenic. one expamle is: Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is a know mutagen, this means it can be aborbed in to cell structure and reprogram them. It also delays the healing of wounds so not good for the mouth anyway. It can build up in bodily organs. This really concerns me as I am aware that your gums have a higher absorption rate that most other skin on the body. Quite scary by all accounts and thats just one of the ingredients!

Thank goodness we have so many types of toothpaste that it is still possible to find one suitable for us.

Ps. I almost forgot Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is used by industry to remove grease from concrete and the like!!!!!!

eating toothpaste ,well i used to eat a lot but oe day i heard that it is not good for health these toothpaste makes stones in our kidneys and they are very hard t odigest even our stomach cannot take it ,it is stored in our kidneys and later if you dot stop it it will become a idney stone and it will require a surgery to re,ove it so why to take a risk there are srtill many things that we can eat..ha am i write well but it is entirely your choice i also used to eat it but now i onlly use it to brush my teeth and nothing else and moreover i have tried only one flavour ar i know there are a lot of flavour including from strawbeeries to even chocolates well but i am happy with my colgate and i hope this eating habit of yours will soon end one day,but i also miss the past days when i used to eat toothpaste in the other hand thank you for reminding me that your as good friend ,so what sre you doing and what excites you the most in eating things like toothpaste?

I use Arm and Hammer for sensitive teeth, and let me tell you, the taste takes some getting used to (it IS made with baking soda after all), but I CAN'T wait to gargle afterwards and get that flavor out of my mouth. Of course, I use Listerine, so I have to deal with THAT afterwards, but oh, well. There are occassions when I have brushed my teeth with just a clean brush dipped in mouthwash. It's good in a pinch, especially when your toothpaste got squeezed dry wihtout your knowledge, lol. And it does help you avoid the whole toothpaste thing. But as for regular brushing with paste, yes, I do gargle to get that flavor out of my mouth after.

I don't particularly like the taste of most toothpastes on the market but seeing as the trade off is a fresh mouth feeling I guess I can put up with it! I wonder how much toothpaste an average person would actually consume in a lifetime? If you think about brushing teeth twice a day on average for maybe 70 years of life it must be a lot! I wonder if there is any odd statistics site with information on something like this? I think tomorrow I will see if I can find anything.....

OK..... According to the information I have managed to find, (assuming an average life span of around 78.5 years), we each use around 276 tubes of toothpaste and go through around 76 toothbrushes. So if you were to assume the average tube of toothpaste is around 50 grams then that's just shy of 14 kilograms of toothpaste per person in a lifetime! That's a LOT! lol.

But James, for most of us who brush with toothpaste, we don't EAT it wholesale. We do gargle and only a bit of the paste is left. That would hardly be 14kg.

I never really tried all those different flavored toothpaste you mentioned. Most of the time, the ones I buy are the normal minty ones. Yeah, I do not like the taste either. So I try to rinse as much as possible to get rid of the taste after brushing. The only time I do not brush my teeth with toothpaste are those times in between meals. I only use toothpaste once int he morning, and once in the evening before going to bed.

Sometime, after eating something, the feeling in the mouth cannot be rinsed out no matter how many times you do it. Only way is to give the mouth a good brush to get rid of that feeling on the teeth. You know, like when you eat something that is not particularly nasty, but it is not pleasant either. Take bitter gourd for example. I love to eat that stuff. But sometimes, due to it not being cooked well, it leaves a very... how do you describe this, some sort of funny feeling on the teeth. It is like the teeth is coated with a layer of anti-slip and it is really uncomfortable unless you brush it away.

I like the komodo brand for kids.. lol =D I like the after taste in my mouth because it's sweet.. lol I dun normally gargle too many times, because it's ok for our mouth to smell of some toothpaste, after all when we start to drink and eat, the smell will be gone.. hehe I remember during N.S, we will eat toothpaste just like that in order to take MC.. haha.. I'm sure u will also know that right, because toothpaste will make our body temperature go up and so it's more easy to C.K.. haha
• Singapore
4 Sep 08
Lol, but the komodo brand tastes so... kiddy! In fact, I try not to eat or drink immediately after brushing since I wouldn't want to paste to somehow mingle with the food. The toothpaste fever trick? I heard of it but I didn't try it. Seems lame.

yes, but i never thought of that that way. and of what i heard, it's really bad if you swallow a lot of toothpastes especially if the water you are drinking had already lots of fluorides on it.
