I have learned to sort-of drive in the Philippines. That helped a little bit in getting that California license. It was easier for me as I already knew how to "handle" a car. So my mom was my first "teacher" when I started practicing over here. That didn't work out so well. Emotions ran high on those drives. So I had my mom's friend take her place and I eventually passed my test. I failed on the first, passed the second which is funny because I didn't really care anymore if I passed or not and I went to the DMV dressed in the most-awful shirt I had and of course, I passed and that was what was in my license picture for a loooong time. There will always be near-misses when one drives, especially when you're just starting. I almost hit a car merging into the freeway because I hesitated, didn't know who was supposed to speed up or slow down. But I still went on driving. Once you get the hang of it, then I think you'll slowly let go of the fear too.

I miss driving. I haven't driven a car for over two years now. I never applied for my international licence when I left my home country and now even my local on has expired! Learning to drive is always a challenge at first and the best way to overcome any fear you may have is to get behind the wheel again and have someone you really trust teaching you. Practice makes perfect!

At first I started out with my mom teaching me to drive. It was bad, she was so paranoid, she was doing that hitting the brake with her foot on the passenger side lol. So I didn't like driving with her. I actually learned driving with my friends. They had their license before me so I would drive their cars. I was a stupid teenager, so at the time I didn't realize how stupid some of the stuff I was doing was. I think you need to just get back out there and try again. As long as you pay attention and drive safe you'll be fine.

hi, We are in the same boat. I am also learning how to drive. I was able to drive once only on the road but I had lots of practice in our long driveway and in the back roads where there are no lots of cars passing. I am scared when big trucks are on my way, I mean ongoing traffic and those who are following me keeps on beeping because I am too slow. I am nervous when my hubby taught be how to drive because he keeps on yelling when there is traffic. He has no confidence in me he said, we might be hit by other cars. that is why I don;t like him to be my instructor. I plan to hire a driver instructor but they are too expensive. I have to save money for that. I tis really hard here in my place if one, can't drive. We feel like disabled. We are very helpless. No public vehicle to take you to the place you want to go.

When I was learning to drive my mom tried to teach me at first. But if it seemed like I was going to run off the road, she would get really excited, and that made me even more nervous. I did take drivers ed, and it made things a lot easier for me. I remember the instructor telling my mom that I have a lead foot. I passed my drivers test on the 1st try, but I always had problems with parallel parking and still do. Learning to drive is a little scary at first, but it will become a lot easier. Hopefully you won't become a bad driver like many of these drivers out here.
