About a half hour or so ago, I sat down to check my e-mail, do some banking and check out the discussions here on myLot. Well, no sooner than I sat down did I hear this dripping noise. It's not raining so I'm being verrrrry quiet to hear where it's coming from. Well, it was coming from the ceiling here in the computer room. Right where the A/C unit is that we just had repaired the other day. I knew it was leaking right away and called my husband - who had just gone to bed. Well, the Mr. Fix-it that he's NOT decided the drain up there was clogged - that's what I thought too, until I LOOKED at it! The pan was not even half full, there's no way a clog would cause it to overflow. So he's on his way outside to try to use a vaccuum to suck the clog out when I run out (both in our nightclothes) and tell him it's the caulk around the pipe in the pan that's got a leak. I could tell right away because the boards directly under that are SOAKED, and the rest of the place is dry. AND that's right where the worst of the leak is. So, we've spent the last half hour plus first draining the 1/4 inch of water out of this 4 foot by 2 foot pan. We're using 2 hand towels and a beach towel to drain the water. We got it dry enough to make a dam around the drain so we could recaulk it. Now, mind you, this is all taking place in our attic, pretty much on the pull-down ladder to the attic since there isn't enough room to move around up there, it's all beams and roof trusses. My husband goes to caulk the pipe and the caulk comes out the bottom of the tube, it's clogged. So he's using his fingers to get the caulk around the pipe. It looks like the dripping has slowed down a bit so I'm really hoping this works. We're going to have to check it in the morning to see if it's set. Oh, the joys of home-ownership!!!!

Wow I hope you are not flooded by now and you got your leaked fixed. It is four days now and if you have not fixed it I fear you need an ark.

Well, the unit is in the attic so we had to turn it off to stop the leaking. Thankfully it hasn't been too horribly hot! Saturday was pretty bad because it was raining a lot from the hurricaine and I had to keep opening and closing the windows.

We usually only get a lot of rain with the hurricaines - we're pretty far north. But sometimes we do get the winds and all. So far this year we're doing pretty good, but we got another month or so to go.

I hope you weathered all the hurricanes well. I am afraid of them and tornadoes I have not witness either. We have earth quakes here in CA but not that often.

Yeah I understand what you mean about the joys of home ownership. It's nice to have a place that you can call your own but the upkeep can easily get out of hand. My home is falling in around me and I can't afford or have the time for the upkeep. Hope you were able to fix your leaking!

Nah, it's still leaking and it's HOT today. We had to turn the AC off until we can get the leak under control. I'll be up there today trying to figure something out....

Hi Reinydawn, Yes Houses can be a hastle sometimes. but we have to keep them up. I hope your Husband gets it fixed correctly so you all don't have anymore problems. How are you? I hope all is well! Last week I came home to my Apartment and the lady of stairs from me let her tub over-flow. It was water everywhere. the ceiling came down somewhat, the maintance man had to repair the ceiling. And My carpet got soaked. I had to call the Office to tell them, they need to come and clean my carpet, because I was having an oder from water leaking from the wood, it must of been dry rotten but it smell terrible. It is ok now. I hope your Husband got things strait for you. Have a good eveing, It is almost my bedtime.

We're still having problems, but I have to see if I can get up there and fix the leak today because it's way hot here now. And it's raining so we might not have the windows opean all day. Make sure you check for mildew on that carpet, it can be very dangerous. That's one thing we're worried about with our leak too.
