What is the best way to prevent static electricity this time of year?

It seems to be caused by the abnormally dry indoor air. I'm not really sure if this would work, but I'm thinking use a humidifier to get mositure in the air. I have not tried it myself.
Also, to reduce it, don't rub your feet on the carpet.
