When we were younger, our mothers use mercury thermometer to check if we have fever or monitor out body temperature when we have influenza. Mercury in thermometers can be dangerous because mercury is poisonous. When a thermometer slips on your hand, falls and breaks, mercury scatters into balls. If not properly cleaned, kids might touch these balls because they are fun to look at. They are dangerous. Instead of having mercury thermometer, I prefer to use digital thermometer. It's easier to use, safer and it's battery operated. Do you still use mercury thermometer at home? Good day to all!

Hi djoyce Well the hearts blinks are always attractive with you... i too seen my uncle keeping therometer in home but he is assisstant to a doctor so he checks our health too and keeping therometer causually is always dangerous in home as kids used to take themselves without our knowledge which is so dangerous. so the clinical things to be handled by experst, thats my idea.

Oh thak you for this tip. Maybe I will really buy a digital one because I am still using the mercury thermometer which I have kept safely in the medicine cabinet. Come to think of it, I've not been using it for years so it shows that no members of the family have been sick for long time already. Wow, that is a great blessing! But still I will take your advice, I really need to buy a digital one.

When necessary, yes I do. Otherwise I just use the back of my hand. We just have to take care and so far so good. No more babes at home now.

thermometer - mercury thermometer
Yup I do! But I'm really really careful in handling it. I know its dangerous that's why I keep it in a safe place and I wrap it with cloth so that if ever it falls down it will not break, hopefully. Is digital thermometer reliable? What if the battery is low will it still give the correct temperature or it affects the thermometers from functioning properly.

Yes, that's one disadvantage. I guess it could affect. I think we should remove the battery when not in use. Have a nice day!

Yes my family still use mercury thermometer , because it is very cheap and convenience. It only cost $0.15 in my country . But a digital thermometer can cost$10 or more .And my family don't have kid till now .

Mercury - Thermometer
Yes we still use it at home. For me it is still the most accurate way of measuring temperature. One must just be careful in handling it so that it will not break. It would not poison you if it stays inside the thermometer.
