Tropical Storm Hanna. Anyone preparing for it's arrival?

I've been keeping an eye on the Weather Channel since there have been so many hurricanes and tropical storms in the past week or two. Hanna is the next to affect the United States. It is predicted to make landfall somewhere around North or South Carolina and head northward.
I live in Virginia, just above North Carolina. My Weatherbug thingie on my computer started chirping and flashing away just a few minutes ago, indicating that there was an alert. When I checked it, I saw that we have a flood warning for tonight through Saturday night. That means that we are expected to get a lot of rain from this storm.
I'm heading outside in a few minutes to batten down a few hatches and cut the grass before it starts raining. Is anyone else preparing for this tropical storm right now? What are you doing to prepare for it?

Josephine? I thought that system wasn't able to get it's act together. Ike is the one that worries me. Not me, personally, because I live on the east coast, but I'm worried for those who live in Florida or at the Gulf of Mexico.
Yeah, Hannah was a breeze, literally!
It kinda floated in here, then floated right back out again about 12 hours later.

I certainly understand your concerns, goldeneagle! Florida usually takes such a beating during hurricane season. That next hurricane, Ike, is really something to worry about. They still don't have a clue as to where it's going and it sure is a whopper!
What's that next one? Josephine? I doubt there's much to worry about with that one because it doesn't seem to be able to get it's act together.
I hope both of them take an abrupt turn to the north and miss the U.S. completely! The southern States, especially Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida, have taken such a beating already. You certainly don't need any more!
I will keep you in my thoughts and hope for the best.

I was here in Pensacola for the aftermath of both Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis when they came through. We actually evacuated for the storms, but came back the next day. I can tell you first hand that these things are no fun. It can take weeks or even MONTHS for the electricity and running water and stuff to be restored. As long as you prepare, you can make it through, especially if you have a generator and things like that. It is rough at times after those storms, but as long as you have your house in tact and you can work, things get back to normal. It just takes time for the clean-up crews and utility companies to do their jobs. All you can really do is the best you can while you wait it out.

I live in West Virginia so I'm really not too too worried about Hanna. We've only had a few times that a hurricane or tropical storm has come close to hitting at all. Being surrrounds by mountains helps a lot too. Often enough we don't get rain when other places have.

I'm in Virginia where, as I like to say, we're right between West Virginia and West Virginia; in that little pointy part of Virginia at the tippy top. We're getting rain right now... rain and wind, although the wind is not too bad right now, we've had gusts up to 35 mph so far. It probably won't get any worse than it is right now. I guess it all depends on exactly where you are around here because, as you said, the mountains help a lot.
Of course, I just looked at the radar and saw a really nasty looking blob of greens, yellows and a bit of oranges heading right for us. If you're farther west than the panhandle of WV, I guess you won't get much rain/wind. I kinda like it where we are; we get some, but not a lot.
Guess I should knock on some wood right about now, huh? LOL

Yep, I feel the same way. Last night's rain and the rain so far today has been light and steady. Nice, good soaking rain. We've definitely needed it!
Yesterday, I cut the grass and pulled in anything that might get damaged or blown away by a wind gust. (My patio furniture, which is in the pavilion, ended up in the farmer's property across the road from us during a very windy storm once! Well, the cushions did.)
We shall see, huh? Looks like the worst hasn't hit us yet. I hope it's just slightly heavier rain. At least it's a very fast moving storm so, even if it does get a bit rough, it won't last long.
Be safe and I hope your grass doesn't grow too much more from this!

Hanna has passed and moved up the east coast. She came through North Carolina this morning around 4am and lasted till about 3pm. There was rain in the early morning but by the time noon came the rain had stopped and the wind was still blowing. The lights went out for a while this morning. But nothing really bad happened in our area, they were prepared for the storm and kept a close watch on Hanna with the local news. That was the good thing. I would say that most people slept though the storm when she passed over the part of North Carolina where I live.

Yep, Hannah really DID move fast! I was surprised! We got a nice, light, steady rain for maybe 12 hours, then it was gone. Well, first it got windy, then rained, then got windy again. That part of it was very strange. I heard that thousands were without power here in Virginia and the Coast Guard shut down the port. I was surprised to hear that, since it was such a gentle storm where I live.
I'm glad it's over, though. What a dark, dreary day! I love the sunshine!!!

Hey mentalward, Well I live in NY and right now it is
1:40am and it is raining kind of steadily and pretty hard.
This is just a slight preview/tease of what is to come
later on today and tonight into Sunday. The weather just
keeps updating so I don't exactly know (nor do the experts)
what we're in for yet. It's going to be on and off I
believe throughout the day and night. So far the worst
part will be in the evening. I think that's when the winds
will pick up and it will get worse into Sunday morning
and then clear up. I hope you don't get hit too hard.
Please take care and be careful!

Oh, you're right... we haven't seen the worst of it yet. The center of this storm is almost in southern Virginia right now and moving pretty fast. It looks like it'll be in NY in no time at all.
At least that's one good thing about this storm, so far... it's moving really fast. I think we're all going to get some pretty heavy rains and wind, but with it moving so fast, it won't stay around long enough to do any really bad damage.
Get some pictures if you can! I just took some but haven't uploaded them yet. I'll post them when I do. Take care!

I hope you got through it ok. We're getting a little much-needed rain here in Ohio from the remains of Gustav.
Ike might be pretty scary, especially since people in New Orleans vow that they'll never again evacuate. Ike is heading right for them, according to storm tracks.
