It's Official, I'm An Idiot ....

I just went to my blogs to add a statcounter, and while there, decided to clean house a bit. I looked at my blog about my PTC sites and saw an entry or two that was no longer valid and decided to open those and delete them as they served no purpose except to use up valuable space. I looked and looked, and clicked this tab and that, and finally opened the one I wanted (or so I thought) and clicked on 'delete'. Well you can imagine what happened next ... I deleted the entire blog! All my entries, list of my best sites, all sorts of tips, all my payment proofs - GONE! I know I'm grasping at straws here, but is there any way to get all that back?

I really am devastated, because I can't re-create it the way it was. I can go back and make some posts about my favorites and such, and re-create the payment proofs because I still have the pictures, but it won't be anything like it was. I guess I better just go ahead and start over.

Oh no... I'm so very sorry this happened to you. I would suggest contacting the site administrator. Hopefully, they backup their sites often. I don't really know much about website administration, though. I hope it all works out for you!

Already done. I'm hoping it will be back up soon! Now if I could just train my brain to catch up with my fingers, I'd be all set.

OH GOSH!! How terrible! I can imagine how I would feel too. Mine is not exactly a blog with posts like yours and as you say they cannot be retrieved. I have copies of my 'bux' blog. I copy the posts about once a month 'just in case' but it is never an updated copy as it gets outdated as soon as I place another entry. I keep a copy of all the banners with the site info I remove too. I have no idea IF it is possible to retrieve it but I fear not - and I feel for you here

I'm not a whiz kid on my computer but I do copies of my posts and save them on block notes. Very simple but effective

No, I wouldn't even know how to do that, and it's at blogger, so I don't think it's something I could even do. The best I could do is keep it in word or something before posting to the blog, but even then, it wouldn't restore it to it's original dates, etc. Regardless, I searched long enough in the help section of blogger and see that you can request it be restored, so I just did. No idea when it will show back up, though.

You might try going to www.archive.org and typing in the URL of your blog and see if the pages come up. That would be my best guess... and you are NOT an idiot.. that's my job! XD

Did you preview your blog, or publish it. If you published it I'm afraid it's gone, but you might go to support and see if there's any way to get it back.

Oh I am so sorry!! Can you contact the admin where you got your blog and see if they have a hard drive back up or whatever it is called to maybe save what you lost? That is just an idea. I hope you can find an answer. God bless you!

I'm thinking about contacting them to see if there's anything they can do, but I doubt they'd pull something out just for my one little blog.

Well, I see you've solved the problem before I finished reading about it. I was going to suggest contacting the admin... things are never permanently deleted in computerland, they just become invisible. Everything that ever showed up on the web is cached somewhere out there. But I'm not a computer tech, so couldn't tell you how to go about it. I just know that it can be done.

I know it can be done too, I just didn't know how easy it would be to pull up just a single blog without it being a big hassle.

I really did have a lot of good info there and I'm sick about it. I'm going to take a break and go watch TV and crochet. Another incident with some friends online has left a bad feeling in my mouth too.

Wish I could be of some help here Ldyjarhead... but I can't. I am sooo sorry! I sure hope you are able to retrieve it all. What site were you using for your blog? Maybe their server has it saved... have you tried to contact them? Can't hurt to give it a shot. Good luck!

Turns out you CAN request that they restore it. Took forever to find it, but I'm sure glad I did! It isn't back up yet, but I'm just thankful that it will be, I don't care if it takes them a day.

Even if I had saved the text from the blogs, it wouldn't put them back with the original dates and such as they happened. No matter, I just found the solution on the help site at blogger. You CAN request that they restore a blog that you deleted accidentally!

I hate it when that happens. I don't know of any way to get them back unless you can find them in your recycle bin? I don't know. I've never done blogs so I'm not sure how all that works. Hope you can figure it out. I know how frustrating that can be.

Nope, you're not an idiot. These things happen. When I read your discussion, I got sick to my stomach because I thought of how I would feel if it happened to me. Blogs are fun but they do take work. Anyway, I'm glad they are going to restore it for you but I bet you will still be feeling sick until they do. :)

hi ldyjarhead did you try going to your delete place and retrieving it by filling in the pertinent data about your blog. I know sometimes I have accidentally deleted a music file instead of something else I meant to delete, and managed to' retrieve it by filling in enough blanks so the delete place had something to go on, you need perhaps atitle and some first words and the number of the drive it was on. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not but if it did then you have saved a lot of hard work you would otherwise have lost. hope this helps . good luck.

No, it wasn't deleted from my computer, it was deleted from the internet, period. It's like telling myLot to delete your account, and then trying to log in and of course it's not there. I did find out that they will restore a blog that you accidentally deleted if you can give them enough information, and I did that earlier today. Hopefully it will be back up soon.
