I have been trying to learn more energy, alternative energy etc. Has anyone ever read the EPA requirements for disposing of these energy saving bulbs? I have also heard they are produced in only one country. If that is true then heres to another great product. I will give you a quick run down of clean up. In case one should accidently break. First making sure no one walks through the spill evacuate the area. Open a window and ventilate for at least 15 mins making sure your central heat and air are shut down. Now grab that glass jar with the metal lid you have on hand. Or a resealble plastic bag. The plastic bag seems to me would be to easily puntured and then there would be recontamination. After careful detailed clean up put the contaimenated items in jar or bag. And dispose in outside trash. Dont vacum or sweep. And be sure to check with your local state agency to be sure that you can put into trash. Since some states do not allow it and want you to take it to a recycling place. You can check it out at epa dot gov. WOW long live the fluorescent bulb!

to add, flourescent bulbs contain Mercury which is hazardous to the health. especially if children are exposed to it, it can affect the nervous system because children are still developing. their bodies are more sensitive to this chemical.
if there is a spill from a nonfunctional or broken unit of this bulbs, be extra careful. to add to what Sleepyredd wrote, don't sweep it as it might be broken down into several droplets. do not wash it off or throw in drains or sinks, cuz it might cause problems in future plumbing and might cause pollution to sewage or septic tank.
