What do you think about the idea of reincarnation?

I think the idea of reincarnation is woven into all religions. Unfortunately the high priests in a particular religion, often want more control over the 'little people'. In Christianity, especially around the 5th century, it is said that the Bible was re-written to bury references to reincarnation, so it could be said "there is no second chance, work hard, be good, for your chance to go to heaven... and by the way, make sure you're generous with your donations, to keep us in the style we're accustomed to".
Another thought on this, is that there is only ever the "NOW", so it is never any good harking back to the past or dreaming of the future, if we want our life to be a certain way, we always have to start acting now.
Well, I've put this in the 'life' section. So, how do you think your idea on the life here after, affects the way you live now... do you believe in karma?

There are some people who believe in this and even go to some specialists in order to bring back previous memories. However, this so called specialists are heavily criticized because when a person is under hypnosis(which is the method they use) the person is extremely suggestible and false memories can be created. This is one reason some people cling to the idea. But i always ask people who believe in reincarnation, What have you done in this life to make you think you deserve another one?

Maybe the point has got a little lost here... it's not about whether people deserve another life or not. My belief is that we will have other lives anyway. THE QUESTION IS... what karma will we have generated to create a new life the way we want? Some people's lives are hell, which I wouldn't wish on anyone... could be different if I was in a bad mood- - - - - heh, heh, heh ! "! !1!!

I'm not sure whether I believe in reincarnation or not. I have to say that it's definitely an interesting subject though. I definitely believe in karma, you do bad things in life, especially to others, then whether you like it or not it's coming back at you! I used to be quite strict as regards religion. I was for a short time a Roman Catholic and I used to say my rosaries daily! Now, I don't follow any religion. I still believe in an afterlife of some kind though. I would like to think that the tunnel of light concept is a reality, at least I hope it is! This sounds very nice and something I could look forward to. If reincarnation does exist then I hope that we return into another human body! I don't like the idea that some people mention about coming back as a frog or returning as a bird, I'm just not that keen on that idea! If that's true then what's to stop you coming back as a spider or something and I definitely hate those critters! I definitely believe in the idea though about "be good!" "Do good!" I believe in a Spirit world and I believe in the concept of "Out of Body Travel", even though I haven't experienced this yet, I'm still trying! Great discussion by the way. Andrew
