Mice- Furry friend or rodent?

Well, I know that a lot of people have mice as pets and I would say that I will gladly give them a few. I am deathly afraid of mice and will climb onto whatever possible when I see one. Well, we have seen three in the kitchen in the past week. We have caught two of them, but the one last night has eluded us. I spotted it and was home alone and was climbing onto the coffee table in the living room to get away from it. I called my daughter and my husband to see who was closer to home. My daughter came home and she thinks that it went into the furnace vent on the floor. I set 5 traps in the kitchen but he avoided them. I bought decon today and I may buy one of those live traps too. I have to rid the house of them or I am moving before the next house payment is due. I can't stand them. To me, I see them as a dirty rodent that carries diseases. Do you see them as a pet or just a rodent? Are you scared of them?

Well, mine is a love/hate relationship with them...I think their cute and I like them...In a cage. I don't like them when they are running loose through the house peeing on everything. I've been told they are incontinent (meaning they pee all the time...I think I spelled it right). I also don't like that they move really fast...and yes, I climb up on top of chairs and such too. I hate to see them killed but I figure a trap is so fast they never see it coming. One time my Mom caught one on a sticky board and it was stuck there but still alive. I took it outside and cried and cried trying to pry it's little legs off the board...it got loose, took about 3 little steps and keeled over. I hate mice. I don't think that they are cute and I would never cry over one being caught on one of those traps. I am glad to see that they are caught. I just see them as nasty little creatures.

I don't much like mice, although many of my friends have mice as pets. They are definitely rodents to me, however!

I am so like you and will jump on the closest thing in site to me when I see a mouse running across the floor or anywhere else . We bought a new place last year and when we did we didn't find any mice anywhere but then my husband and my son starting cutting down the trees right across the driveway and all of a sudden it seemes we were overrun with them in the house . We had one cat at the time but even though she was often catching one there just seemed to be no end to them . It was truely horrible !! I in no way few them as a pet and find them to be very dirty and they carry diseases not to mention the crap they leave around the house . We just got two more little kittens the mice are in for a shock when they realize they are not going to last long in our house lol . Maybe you could consider getting a cat , they are much cuter to have around the house and make the mice considering setting foot in your house lol :)

I agree with you. I think that I may get a cat soon if we find any more. I hate the thought of more than one being here. However, I know that we have caught three mice already.

In the words of a famous cartoon character, carolscash, "I hate meeses to pieces!" I am also irrationally afraid of the creatures. The incident you described brought to mind a similar one I experienced a long time ago. My little granddaughter and I were home alone watching TV one night when a mouse suddenly began scampering across my bedroom floor. I immediately phoned my daughter who lived a stones' throw away from me in the same apartment complex. Ignoring the fact that I was on the second floor, I was all set to bail out of the window. Thankfully, I did not have to because my daughter who was still living at home chose that moment to return home.

I would bail out of the window if that would get me away from the mouse. I hate them and I am scared of them. I know that if I couldn't have reached someone the other night to come home and help me, I would have left the house.

Most winters we find a few mouse running around our house. I don't consider them as pets at all, they are pests, who create mess and spread germs. I was scared of them at first, but I'm not so scared any more. When we first found them we called a pest control company, who set traps and got rid of the ones that were here at the time, but then they took their traps away and the mice came back again. We live in an old house which has lots of nooks and crannies, and we can't for the life of us find out how their getting in. So when we see them we buy the clear plastic traps with the poison in (which means we don't have to handle poison ourselves). That normally works, but we never know if we've got all of them as it's hard to know how many there are. I have considered moving because of them, but other than this I love our house and don't really want to live anywhere else! I hope you manage to get rid of yours.

I have thought about moving too. I hate the thought of sharing my house with them and I won't live here if they are going to be here. I am so scared of them and I don't ever want to see another one in my house.

There is no way that I believe that they are more scared of me than I am of them. It is a scary thought but I feel that it is just too much for me to share my house with them.

I do not see mice or rats as pets. I see them as food for my cat, Dubby. Dubby is always catching them. He loves them, and we reward him for doing his job, and doing it well.

Our cat which is in our barn on our other property likes them too. He catches them and brings them to my daughter as a "gift".

I can see a white mice as a pet, but not a regular house mouse. I hate mice and rats. They cause diseases. The only things in the rodent family I like are squirrels and that is because they are outside, climb trees and look nice when they are begging. Mice and rats are horrible little creatures, and spread the plague. Oh they make good food for dogs and cats and give them something to chase after. But I guess when a child wants a pet, and they cannot afford a dog or cat or bird, then anything will do.

I don't see how anyone could have pet mice of any kind. I would never let my kids have a mouse as a pet.

Well, you are lucky in that you aren't scared of them. I am terrified of them. It makes life miserable when you are so scared of something.

They are dirty rodents to me too. I live in town and I think that is why I was shocked to see one. Plus, we have been here for 3 years and all of a sudden we have them. YUCK!!

They will make me live home, I am scared of them, and can not even look at them on TV or in a book or magazine. When I was fifteen, my Aunt needed a baby sitter for one month. My sister was to baby sit for two weeks, and then me. My sister did the first two weeks, then it was my turn. I went to my Aunts house, and had dinner, watched TV, then they showed me where I would be sleeping. I got ready for bed, and as I was in bed, the light from the other room was on, and I saw a mouse leaving the room I was in. Needless to say, I was not able to sleep all night, now this was my first night. The next morning after my Aunt had given me instructions, and left the house, I dressed the baby and went outside. I stayed outside all day, I did not eat, I feed the baby and changed her diaper outside. I called my sister and asked if she would finish up my two weeks for me, and I went home. So my sister made all of the money, I only got the one day's pay

I would have done the same thing! I can't sleep when they are in the house. I don't look at them either. They scare me so bad!!

I would never consider mice as pets. In fact, they are my mortal enemy. They are the reason why our dog was confined at the animal clinic for a week. She suffered from jaundice and leptospirosis. Good thing, she was revived by her vet. I am gonna kill all those pests!!!! ARgggghhh!

Sorry to hear about your dog. What happened? Did she get bit by one? I hate them and I know they can cause a lot of health issues. I will help you kill them if you need help!

When I was younger I might have viewed them as pets, but now see them as pests, especially when they are in my attic. I have never seen one in the house, but recently went into the attic because I heard something running around up there. I went to look for it but only found the droppings. I put out decon last year, along with some glue boards. All of the decon is gone, and one of the glue traps is missing. I guess whatever it was dragged it away. I bought a product called the rat zapper and am waiting for it to arrive. I am not fond of the idea of killing anything, but don't want to risk my family or myself getting sick from having rodents in the house.

That is one of my concerns too is that the kids will get sick. I would worry if one of my glue traps were gone. We caught another one the other night so our total is 3 now and that better be all of them!

I have a very unhealthy fear of any rodent. When I was a kid, I used to try to keep them as pets every so often, but it never worked out. One time, I even had a rat that was so mean. He would hiss at me when I walked into the room and would chase his mate around the cage all day. One day when I went to clean their cage, he jumped about 6 inches into the air and got out of the box I had put him in. I was terrified. My brothers tore my room and that entire level apart looking for him. They couldn't find him, so they set traps. I ended up sleeping on the couch for about a month before the found him in my parents' pantry. He had been eating all of their long term storage and he was about as big as a size 7 woman's tennis shoe. It was even more scary because he was white with red eyes. My little brothers ended up catching him and taking him and "disposing" of him. It was very frightening for me. Now in my new house, we had a few mice last winter and everytime I saw one, we would set atleast three traps and we put rat poison in our attic, cellar, garage, and any outer buildings. I spent three days sitting on my bed with my two little girls watching cartoons. They give me the chills!

What a scary idea! I can't imagine one being that big and being white with red eyes would make it really scary! I set a lot of traps too when I see one. I just can't stand them. I have an unhealthy fear of them too. I was literally scared to go into the house when it was dark. We had to sleep with a light on as I knew that they were around and I had to be able to see them.
