End of the World in 2012 - Now everybody is talking about this?- Is it true?

Poples from around the world are saying that world is going to end in 2012. Not only general peoples are saying. Apart from general peoples scientists are expecting a polar drift, Religious peoples are saying that in hindu holy books, bible, and some other religious books are having a note that world would end at 2012. There are so many reasons are being said about this. I think this is the first time religious , scientists are expecting something which are one and the same. If you have any idea please post here.
