What would you do?

What would you do if one of your dearest friends confided in you that they had accidentally killed somebody and asked you not to tell the police or anyone?

Well, I would keep it to myself, but I will have to tell eventually, because, something like this, I will not want to be held accountable for. I would have to bring this friend in for a confession to the Police Department.

Since they said it was accidental (assuming here that they are being totally honest) I would encourage them to go to the police and tell them what happened. One, if it was accidental, and no one else knows, since it is being confided in me, the police need to know, the family needs to know what happened to the deceased. If after trying to convince them and they would not go to the police, I would have to call the police and tell them what I know. If it was ever found out, and it was uncovered that I knew all along, I would have been an accomplice, and the police would have plenty of questions for me! However, after trying to get them to go to the police, I would then give them the last option, either they go to the police or I will. I would rather them be mad at me over it than to not do the right thing.

IF it was accidental or if they said it was accidental then I would try to get as much details as possible. Then I would decide for myself if it was a cover up or if it was in truth and honesty an accidental killing. If it was accidental I would urge them to call the police and explain to them the circumstances. Investigative technology is so very established now that if it was accidental they would be able to tell, atleast in most cases. However, if I felt it was intentional I would be as brief as I could without arousing suspicion and then get away from this friend and alert the authorities. I would be frightened for my own life amidst this murderer and definitely feel victimized as I would have knowledge and if I was not careful could be considered an accomplice. Who's to say that the murder did not take place briefly before their confession? Yes in my own heart and soul, as well as for the good of society and humanity, I would turn this person in if need be.

I would tell, murder is a sin, and I would not be able to live with myself knowing such information. By the friend telling me, it may be the guilt on their conscious and may want to turn themself in, but do not want to do it themself. If in fact I were not to tell, if this person got caught, I then could become an accessory to the crime. Sorry, but I will not go to prison for no one. I would do the right thing, because I would be concerned with the victim's family as well. It would not be that I am a traitor, it would be me doing the correct thing.
