For first time parents it's an awesome book, it's like a lifesaver for us when we had our first born. My mother-in-law was with us during delivery and when she left after a month and we start to care for our 1-mo-old baby we realized we know nothing on how to do things with her. We're even scared to hold her. Thanks to baby whisperer books by Tracy Hogg and Melinda Blau.

One of my good friends is a nanny and she really recommends this book to the people she works for. I've never read it myself, but it sounds like an easy read with a lot of sensible advice. You are very fortunate that your MIL was able to stay with you for that long. My Mom stayed for a week, but she helped more with the housework than with the baby. This was good, because we were totally comfortable with our son right from the start.
