Oh my dear nutanjain I live in Dominican Republic and here is not because the monsoon or summer or winter, is because we have THIEVES AND INCOMPETENTS as politicians and They have never been interested in providing electricity to this beautiful island. So power is always out for about 8-12 hours a day. All year round! We have power generators to cover the Government's fault. And is terribly expensive to have electricity 24/7 but is the only way we get by. Now when some damage to the lines occurs and the generators can be turned on 24 hrs, you just go out to restaurants, Movies, Parks any public places that as business their Generators are turn on during business hours. This assures that the generator will be turn on during sleeping hours so the A/C won't be missing!

Oh girl Iam still laughing. My earnings in mylot won't buy me a lottery ticket in this island, hehehehe... A family of 3 in a normal home (3/3) NOT stealing from the electricity company, with a generator, normal amount of apliances, energy saving bulbs,in order to have 24 hrs of electricity have to spend in a range of US$800.00 -1,000 Monthly (Maintenance, fuel and electric bill) A gallon of diesel is US$5.50-6.00 The majority of people in the island are poor and they don't pay the electricity they use. The governments need these people's votes in order to win, that is the reason they never enforce collecting from them. Besides the minimum wedge is so low they will not be able to pay what they really consume. What's worst is even rich people steal from the electricity company. So we are terminated! Thanks goodness the summer is almost over and you will be relief from the heat, which I definitely find worst than cold.

HI nutan, we don't have much power interruption here but most of the time, I love to be in the mall or just love to spend time with my hubby outside of the house, having some snacks and spend time talking about anything!

I am pretty lucky, where I am in UK we do not have loads of power cuts. We usually get them in really windy weather when a pylon will be damaged. Also we have had one when there has been an accident where someone has crashed into one. The last power cut we had was last year and that was through an accident and it was a long power cut too. At first it was hard to know what to do but then we just played games and stuff and did some drawing by candle light, we all actually enjoyed that night.

Hi nutanjain, We have had a lot of rain but we don't get many power cuts, thank goodness, the water authority always says they haneb't got enough water and summer in some are we have to be careful how to use water and waste it, we don't have problems with monsoons here in U.K but too much heavy rain. Well it depends on the time of day. If it is daytime then I would spend the time reading or working in the garden. Power cuts during the day are a pain but they do not cause as much trouble as night time ones. But if the power goes out at night then there is absolutely nothing to do. There is no light so I cannot read a book. We do have candles but my old eyes cannot see much by candle light any more. There is no computer or tv. I suppose if you have a battery powered radio there you could listen to that but there is not much else you can do.

hi nutanjain I usually read if its in the daylight, but we seldom have the electricity go off here. Maybe the rain may have caused flooding at your electeric plant and that caused the electic people to make power cuts or again maybe more people were using a lot of electricity and thus they had to make power cuts. who really knows?

we do not have frequent power cuts. it is mainly concentrated to those times when there is torrential rain accompanied by winds and thunder. but otherwise it is fit and fine in our locality. orissa has the big hirakud dam . so, no much problem in electricity. by the way, where are you from? if india, which place...

I just stay at home and normally reminds myself that I am still lucky bec. even if electricity is not available for that moment I know I have a lot of food stock in my kitchen cabinet.I pity those people who can't leave their house esp. if they have kids.I make sure I have a lot of candles, matches and canned goods and breads stock and that's the time I become sentimental and that's the time for me to write down my thoughts and sometimes I can compose poems.Having power outage makes me feel peaceful and calm so my mind works during that time for me to write.

ring up the electricity board eagerly to inquire how soon things will work out. or just lie down on bed for a short rest.

If my husband and I are together, we "make the best of power cuts," if you get my drift, but if I am alone (he works in Arizona!), i get on a bus, or get into a taxi and go someplace where there's power, until I've heard that the lights have come on back at home. If there is no place to go, I just light a candle and read.
