Wedding DISASTER!

United States

I worked in the hotel business for several years. The place where I worked the longest had a 200 foot atrium as the lobby and the odd numbered rooms looked out into the building and made for some "interesting" moments over the years! One night this couple had reserved the atrium for their wedding because the bride wanted to make "an entrance" down the huge staircase in the center. Okay the wedding starts, the music starts playing, the bride starts down the staircase, wedding guests were turned toward the staircase watching the bride come down. Suddenly, the guests start mumbling and giggling and the bride is still coming down the stairs and now she's literally in tears because she couldn't figure out why they were laughing. What she couldn't see was the window directly above her where a couple had the curtains wide open and were "going at it" in their room - totally oblivious to everything except what they were doing. The security guard tried shining his torch in the woman's eyes since she was up against the windows, but they just kept going. He finally radioed us and we tried calling the room - no answer and by now the bride has finally seen this couple in the window and starts screaming bloody murder. TERRIBLE echoes in that atrium, by the way. We sent somebody to the room, but they wouldn't answer the door either. After a while, we FINALLY got the couple's attention. The woman screamed and pulled the curtain shut and the wedding guests all clapped and cheered. When the night manager got to talking to them, it turns out that they thought the window was a one way mirror and had no idea they were putting on a show for everybody in the lobby. Now the father of the bride is hollering at the front desk, threatening to sue the hotel for the "outrage" and the guests have been ushered up into a meeting room. It certainly wasn't the HOTEL's fault, but I think they probably gave the family some kind of discount for their additional entertainment.

How sad. Yet, I don't think you could hold the hotel responsible. It's not their fault the people wouldn't open their door or pick up the phone. It would be different if they didn't care, but she did because she screamed and shut the window. Hopefully the hotel put a sign in those rooms that said people can see you in the Atrium, make sure to shut your drapes.

The management put little cards on the desks warning about the windows, but it was obvious that nobody read them since it happened several times after that wedding incident. But never with such "climactic" results. It would have been better to put the info ON the window, but that would have "spoiled the view." Be honest do any of you read every piece of info in a hotel room?

Of course we don't read every scrap of paper in a hotel room. Crazy.

It was kinda funny watching "Daddy" turning all kinds of colors while he was hollering at the night manager. But then the Bridezilla's attitude didn't help much cause was OBVIOUSLY a spoiled brat and she'd been a ROYAL PITA all day while the prep work was going on so it's all karma.

Wow, that sounds like one interesting place to work. I think that is definitely something that both parties should be embarrased about. I for one would be embarrased about putting on a show and not knowing about putting on the show. As a bride, I'd be embarrased and upset because my wedding day, the day that is supposed to be all about me turned into a day about someone else, and the sad thing is, they didn't even know they were ruining it for me! What a day.

hi dark4eyes my g. what a wedding, too bad the bride didnt have more of a sense of humor, she cou ld tell her kids and grandkids' what an unusual wedding she had with the couple above showing us how wedded bliss should be handled.lol. While it must have been upsetting I think its also sort of funny.I am sure the wedding party did get a discount. think i would haveloved to have seen all this commotion. lol again.

Hahahaha... That was a funny one. The wedding must have got ruined but all the guests seemed to be enjoying themselves to the fullest. Its not the hotels fault because if the couple thought the window was a one way mirror the blame can't be put on the hotel. Also all this did not turn out be on purpose to ruin the wedding. It just happened all of a sudden. But yes if one of us had a wedding like this we would have gone crazy. Also we would have felt really miserable just as the bride did if everyone started laughing and giggling and we had no clue as to why they were doing that.
