I have tried many ways of meeting people over the years including dating websites. I have been overwhelmingly disappointed by the process. The main problem appears to be the imbalance of men and women on these sites. My experience (as a man) has been that there are perhaps as many as ten times as many men in my age group (at the time 20s and 30s) as women. As a result it was extremely rare for me to get any kind of response from any woman I sent a message to. The second problem is the nature of meeting people on line. In order to select bewtween the possible matches, you have to state your requirements. This means that you specify age, height etc characteristics which severely limits your choices. Similarly on interests. The third problem is the use of photographs. In view of the large number of people looking, it is very easy to reject people who appear 'ugly' or 'unattractive' in their picture. In reality, when you meet people and get to know them, looks ultimately become secondary. But in online dating and speeddating in particular you aare 'forced' to make a 'quick' decision about someone and inevitably this will mean deciding based on looks. As someone who is only 'average' looking, I had very little chance of attracting a mate this way. What is your experience of on-line dating?
