Love is like an Onion, lame break-up reason

He told me, "our love is like an onion. The skin slowly peeled away. Now it is gone." That was the lamest introduction-to-a-break-up i have ever heard in my entire life. It didn't even sound poetic to me. If it's an onion that has peeled away, certainly it is NOT an onion anymore because there is nothing there. What was the lamest excuse someone ever told you? Or the lamest break-up-line you have ever heard?

But... when you peel the skin away from an onion there is a newer, fresher skin underneath. So, I would say that his analogy of an onion skin was not a very good one!. I haven't really heard a lame break-up line as when it happened to me (many years ago in my youth!), I would insist on the truth. If a girl said to me, "I think we ought to cool it for a while". I would say, "what you really mean is that you want to be break-up?" This would usually being a "yes". If there was any more waffling and I was still interested in the girl, I would say, "well just give me a call if you want to see me again". Then they either would or would not, and then I had usually moved on anyway.

Good analogy you've got there, derek. I think men have a different way of dealing with break ups. Most women cry, infront of the guy, and this "onion-love analogy" is reflected here: the guy is the onion, slowly peeling away, making the girl cry. It is not love.

Oh my God, that indeed is the lamest excuse. I agree with you it is not poetic at all. Unfortunately, I have never had a lame excuse in that respect.

That was about nine long years ago. He gave something good to write about. Something interesting, and funny - out of his ridiculous line (lol).

That IS a pretty pathetic break up line! lol. I don't know of any from personal experience but you always hear the "It's not you, it's me" line being made fun of in many movies and shows in the past. I have to admit that this one also is pretty lame and unbelievably transparent!

That is so true. You know, sometimes it is best to just say nothing. The guy's guilty look is enough sign for a girl to just scram and get over him fast. DOn't guys have any clue that we have a certain break-up-detectors (intuition, they say) and there is no need to come up with such lame excuses or lines or like "love is like an onion" line? Though indeed, like an onion that smells and bring tears these axcuses are.
