You have only just enough money to buy food for yourself or for the cat or dog. What will you do, buy food just for yourself and let your pet go hungry, or get the food for the cat/dog and go hungry yourself? Or would you buy food that you can share with the cat or dog? Bearing in mind that while dogs will eat practically anything, cats will only eat meat, so if your own food is mainly vegetable based, then you won't have the option of sharing with the cat.

Some cat food doesn't look that bad...the Sheba food really looks good...mmm...wonder if I could develop a taste for it? And for a nice crunchy snack....I could eat some of their dry food...

I seem to remember a story where someone got eaten by cats... but I can't remember the name of it or any details.

Even i have only enough money I will certainly buy a food for us, i will cut it fair by three so we all can eat. I can't stand I am the only one eating. I think even I am vegetable based if ever, the cat and the dog don't mind if that is a vegetable or not because they are already hungry LOL.

Hi there jwfarrimond,
I think, once we decided to live with a pet, we must take the responsibility to feed them. And i always share my meal with my pets. You are right to not give them the chicken bone. Its dangerous for their belly. Happy posting always, oxox'dian from Bali island.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who if they find that the cost of feeding the pet is to much, they will just abandon it. I would never do that, my cats food is as much a part of my budget as my own food. In fact I just did a grocery order in which a good half of the cost was for cat food. I don't think that you can put a price on the love and companionship that a cat or dog can bring.

This sounds like me toward the end of the month when my funds start getting low...Since I do get food stamp benefits, but might not have extra money to get cans of cat food, I'll use my benefits to buy canned tuna or even canned chunk chicken....if anything I can eat both too...Actually I know a friend who is vegetarian, yet she buys meat for her cats and dogs, usually chicken.

I love animals (well I am not the greatest animal lover but I do ok in that department)Consequently there is one thing I ma not doing is going hungry for any animal. That said however I wouldnt let the animal go hungry if I can help it.I would rather buy food that we can share and that is why I prefer dogs to cat ,dogs eat anything ,cats ar emore picky .

I think I would put all my money into making sure the cat or dog was fed and fat and then if things got really, really bad I could then eat the pet! lol. I am just joking of course! I think that with a cat especially they are pretty good at fending for themselves so I would feed myself. The only way I could get out of this situation would be to keep myself as alert and healthy as possible so my main focus would be on myself.

my cats would eat.i would never think of feeding myself while they were hungry.
i can go without food.i would also go to the local food bank.
the one near me gives out canned salmon,so they could have that too.

Chicken bones can be dangerous as they can splinter and sharp fragments lodge in the throat. If I have chicken, I'll usually give the cats some of the skin and meat, but never the bones.

Hello jwfarrimond! Well, if that's the case, then I would buy meat so that I could share it to them. I don't want to see them dying. Since, I can't support them too, I would probably sell them to people who were able to feed them and that will take care of them then if I am stable, I would buy my own pet.
