People, help me on this. I will admit that right now I am the one working, by BF is currently studying, he still has 2 years more. I am in Guam and he is in the Philippines.
Our communication is based on internet calls, emails and text messaging. Plus he is taking up, computer science. So I was wondering if it would be helpful for him for me to pay for his laptop, since it will also be an advantage for the both of us... since he doesn't have to leave home and rent a computer outside to do his homework or go online...
Would it be ok if I bought him a laptop?

I don't see anything wrong with this, because you seem to have all the bases covered anyway; you say this will not put a financial strain on you, and as long as you are taking the responsibility of paying for it, you are actually helping him in his studies! And as long as you are prepared to accept the consequences, if something goes wrong, this will keep communication open between the both of you!

I know, his sister charged it on her credit card, since stores in the Philippines charge credit cards from 6-12 months with 0% interest. All I have to do now is pay her credit card every month.

wow that is so sweet of you... :) at least you are going to give him something he can use.. but what about the monthly ISP bills?? who will pay for that? if he does not have a connection at home will you be paying for it as well??
anyway i am just tring to make you think of the cost getting him a computer will cost. you may want to buy him an eeepc 1000h it is only 26K much cheaper than other brands and is convenient too bring too. this might be useful for him... and being a devils advocate here.. just make sure that he is going to be using that only for you hehe i mean he might get into chatting and stuffs. if you know what i mean...

I thought of that too. ABout the connection, he's paying half, because his sister's always online, besides, there's a lot of available Wireless Connections in philippines, and he sometimes buys those internet pre-paid cards.
About the chatting with someone else thing, I don't think this will happen, I mean, he is still a guy, but my boyfriend isn't the type who goes online everyday, I have to text him just to convince him to find a way to go online. Plus, if he does cheat online, and breaks my trust, well its his lost not mine...

If you really think that there's a future for both of you then I don't see why you shouldn't treat him to a new laptop. There are many nice and affordable models here in the Philippines ranging from Php20,000-30,000. It wouldn't really put a dent in your budget even after paying for the internet connection fee. Just make sure that your family's stable. It would be a little silly to buy your boyfriend a new laptop when one of your siblings has to walk to school because he/she can't afford a jeepney ride and the like.

Hm... nope, my brother in Philippines is fine. He's graduating this year and he isn't the type of guy who would walk to school, he's like a prince. Plus, I ain't the bread winner, but I do pay for some of my family's bills, I pay for my bills here in guam, but as of now, I'm not in debt cause my cost of living isn't really expensive. I'm working 2 jobs, not because I need the money, but because I need to make myself busy so not to get home sick, if you know what I mean. And I do see a future with him, and I know if our situation was the other way around he'd do the same thing for me.
