Manchester City's new owner Dr. Sulaiman Al Fahim had tried to buy Arsenal FC before deciding to buy Manchester City....... It has now been revealed that Dubai tycoon met with one of Gunners' two biggest share-holders a few months ago over talks on pumping three hundred and sixty million US dollars into the Gunners' coffers.......
According to English newspaper THE MAIL on Sunday, meetings did in fact take place between Arsenal's Russian stake-holder Alisher Usmanov earler this year, with a view to buying twenty four percent holding........ However, negotiations reached a deadlock after it was reported that THE ABU DHABI UNITED GROUP (ADUG) would have had to pay a premium on the shares in order to gain a stake at Arsenal but Usmanov was only willing to sell a proportion of his share........
With Usmanov's stakes in the Arsenal board amassing to US$360 million, a buyout would have ensured that ADUG would have been the biggest stake-holders in North London club, slightly more than director Danny Fiszman.......
With Robinho joining City on transfer deadline day for a staggering US$64 million immediately after ADUG did indeed buyout City, it seems that the Gunners could have been able to rely on the extra-ordinary wealth of Sheik Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the man behind ADUG should the club had bowed to the Arab's request......
However, Fiszman and his fellow directors have agreed to offer first refusal on the sale of any shares to each other before selling out to foreign billionaires in a lockdown agreement which extends until 2012.

it'd be mouth watering if they had bought Arsenal... cos with Wenger's policy of buying young promising players, they will have no problems buying all the wonderkids like Messi, Aguero, Pato, Adu, etc... O_O

very interesting news. It seems these guys are strictly business men; I wonder if they do understand their undertaking, if they do appreciate soccer at all, instead of looking at it too much more of a business entity, or money-spinner. It would be best if they also had the passion of the game at heart as they venture into this business.
Already, I can see they want to show that they have the money and can throw it here and there anyhow. I hope there still will be sanity in the game, what more with premature haggling over transfers!

The gunners are one of the clubs in England which are opposing foriegn ownership. Of course, this would give them a lot of money to compete in the transfer market, but then it would dilute the focus on the game to the focus on the money making antics. I am also not convinced that Arsene Wenger is comfortable with too many big names in his team as yet, so I guess he prefers having kids whom he can mould into world famous players. So personally, I do not think he really worries that Gunners are now a selling club when it comes to players.
Cheers!

Just proves how stupid Arsenal FC are, if they were bought by abu dhhabi united group they would have been the richest club in the world! and would have had lots of class players instead of there rubbish "young gunners" Arsenal FC need to buy players not just buy young players who have minor experience thee only young talent is Fabregas!!! Happy Mylotting guys!!
