My cousin's daughter and son lives with her. We had a conversation concerning the grandson. He was helping a repair work around the house the grandson is about 10 yrs old. She made a statement about him fixing him some breakfast one morning just something simple (using the stove), I told her that it is a good thing for parents to raise little boys to to take care of themselves. So that when they are older they won't have to depend on anyone. Things like cooking, laundry, ironing.
My daughter is teaching her boys how to take care of themselves and they are 12 yrs. old. They cook simple things for themselves, they iron some of their clothes.
Are you teaching your young boys how to do for themselves?
If you are a male adult did your mother teach you how to care for yourself or did it come natural?
I think it is important for males to learn this at an early age.
Just my opinion.

HI Chevee,
I agree with you..My husband learned how to cook at the age of 10 and now I am very proud that he will never just watch me doing stuff in the house, he cooks, he fix things, he do the laundry and fold but of course since he has a regular job, I just offer to do those stuff often but he is cooking regularly..LOL!
It is really ideal for the men to be trained how to do things so that they will not grow up being messy and untidy! LOL!

Oh yes Chevee you are very right. Not because they are males, they are exempted from doing chores around the house. I am so happy and thankful to my mother in-law because she raised my husband well. I am so blessed to have married a man who knows all household chores so that my life as a working mother is not that tough. I have a responsible hubby who helps me a lot around the house. He could iron clothes, he does the laundry, he does a lot of house cleaning, and can do carpentry, plumbing, and a lot of other works in the house. This is the reason why we trained our only son to learn household chores as well. He is now very much like her Dad and certainly her future wife will also thank us his parents for having molded him that way.

Hi Chevee,
I don't have any children but my mother made sure my brothers learn how to do things for themselves as well as us girls, I have two sisters and three brothers, the cand cook and saw, my middle brother can saw but I can't he saw all the curtains in his house and he has a sawing machine in his house, the only thing I can do hem my jeans and trousers up and saw buttons, but I can knot.

It is very important to teach our children to be self-sufficient, esp boys. My son can cook, clean and do laundry and he is only 15. I started teaching him early. One day he will be on his own going to College or University and he needs to know how to look after himself. I hope one day he will make a great husband!!!!
