I am a sophomore at the State University at Buffalo, and decided that I 1) have too much free time on my hands, and 2) need something that is going to help me stand out amongst my fellow grads in the years to come. So I have decided to pledge a professional fraternity. My first choice was Alpha Kappa Psi for a number of reasons. First and foremost I have a number of friends who are currently brothers, and secondly from what I understand they are quite a well known fraternity amongst professional fraternities. My question to all my fellow myloters was, "who can give me some unbiased information on this fraternity." I mean, I've spoken with a number of the brothers and they all only have good things to say, I mean, it is their job. But I was hoping that someone from the mylot community might shed some light on their experience with this fraternity. If you were a brother, did you ever talk about it on an interview? Do you feel it may have helped you clinch the position at a job you wanted? Did someone TELL you you got the job because they were a member or because they are familiar with the fraternity? I am just looking to see if this fraternity is really as widely known as I have been made to believe it is, and is it really going to be worth my time. Thanks for your input!

Hello mr9317. I am actually a brother of AKPsi in Miami, Florida. I'll try to be as unbiased as possible and tell you about my experience. I know you have heard a lot of good things about the fraternity from current brothers and they probably will only tell you good things. But you need to really find out if AKPsi is right for you. For example, if your not a business major or minor you need to ask yourself if AKPsi is really for you? While I have seen many non-business majors contribute a lot to the chapter I have also seen a lot of them disappear after one semester. Also, try to find out what it is they really do that is professional because some chapters do a lot of things that are just social and only have token professionalism.
