do you feel intimidated talking to your child's teacher?

I was just in a discussion under Hobbies with a group of women responding to one mom's issue with her son's teacher at school. I am just curious. Are there a bunch of you out there that feel like teachers talk down to you or feel frustrated because your child is not a really great student but nobody seems to be helping him/her and you really don't know what to do since you are the MOM and not the TEACHER??? I'm just interested in hearing people's experiences with teachers. Debra

not at all. i think that a a teacher should be treated as a team member that is helping you raise your child. however, if you have a problem with the teacher, i would not hesitate to contact the principal or go even higher if you have to.

Hi Cher913, That's great to hear. I love the idea of looking at a teacher as a team member there to help us raise our children! Just out of curiosity, at what point do you think you should involve the principal (or higher)? I mean, what kinds of problems do you think warrant going beyond the teacher and up to the higher bosses? Debra ps I have to leave now so will not be able to check back on mylot until tonight :-)

if your request or concerns seem to be falling on deaf ears. last year a neighbour of mine's daughter was being stalked by another kid at school and the teacher couldnt or didnt do anything, nor did the principal. they ended going to the school board to get it under control.

Wow. That's distressing to hear. Good for your neighbors for going to the school board. I hope they resolved it. Thanks for the response Cher.
