Going cold turkey!!

September 8, 2008 10:15am CST
I have had a disaster!! My laptop won't charge at all now! the charger connection has been dodgy for a while but now it's completely stopped working!! After my battery dies that's it until my new one arrives (hopefully in the next few days!!!) But this means that there'll be no mylotting for me until then!! It's wierd to think i won't be able to log on to check my email notifications and see what's been going on here! I promise i will be back responding to discussions and responses asap!! So, would you be bothered if you couldn't go on mylot, or the internet at all for a few days!? How do you think i should fill the couple of hours i usually spend on here after work instead? xxxx

Take out a pen and a notepad. Jot down all the things you would love to write about at mylot. Jot down all the ideas you may have. Anything you may want to write about at mylot. Then write them down properly in the notepad as you would on mylot. Once you get your computer access back, transfer your notes to the computer and post it on mylot. That way, you get the ideas going. And you can still post to catch up on your posting. Only thing you cannot do is catch up on responses during this period.

Well, as you go along, you will be thinking about mylot so much, you will soon have lots to write when you are away from the computer. It can be of anything of any nature. As long as you are thinking of an opinion about something, you can write it down in your little mylot journal. It is one idea you can expand on later when you get back to it. This mylot journal is a neat little idea that particularly useful for those lull period where you ran out of ideas to write in mylot. Referring to the journal will allow you to generate some posts till your inspiration hits again.

It's going to be difficult for you.It can be quite irritating as well when something like this happens. I would find it very difficult, and would find some whay to log in,even if it meant going out and doing so. Why not think of some ideas for starting some new discussion ? I'm sure you will be able to come up with a few.

I have never had a battery fail. I have however had the actual power socket fail making it impossible to charge the battery. This was on a HP laptop, and from all the comments I've since seen online, it seems that power socket connector problems are not uncommon with HP laptops. You don't say what brand your machine is, but if it's a HP, your problem will be with the charger socket connection to the motherboard rather than the battery itself. I now have an Acer laptop and I'll be selling the HP at some point in the near future.

I've got a dell, it was the battery charger rather than the battery itself so i've just replaced the cable and things seem to be fine! i think this sort of thing is quite common with laptops in general but at least this time it was relatively cheap and easy to fix!! xxx

Hi Munchkin, I do hope your new charger arrives very soon as you will be missed. I had connectivity problems for 6 whole days once and I was so frustrated not being able to let anyone know where I was or answer any discussions and I never did manage to catch up with them all. I did manage to get some cupboards cleaned out and chores I had put off because I was spending the time mylotting but if I was you I would take the time to relax and also to jot down any discussion topics that you think off before you forget them. When I came back I posted about 6 on day one back and 4 the following day so I was very busy both responding to others and also responding to my responses and I soon felt like I had never been away. Hope to see you soon. Huggles. Ellie :D

It's crappy when technology lets us down! My computer is currently broken and my husband has made me an old banger so I can check my emails, etc - but I'm really hoping he can get my stuff off the old hard drive! Sometimes I think life was easier when we only had pencils and paper ... *sigh* Hope you get back on the air soon!

I'd be inclined to agree with you there, the less fancy things are the less things can go wrong!! i don't think the internet would have worked with pen and paper though! lol I hope your hubby managed to get the stuff off your hard drive, i'd be really upset if that happened to me, i've got all my photos of family and friends stored on here, not to mention all my uni work, would be a nightmare!! I've got it sorted now and am glad to be back online!! thanks for the response! xxx

Wow...I really feel for you...I don't know what I'd do if I lost the net right now. I love my net and can't think of going cold turkey without it. I hope you get yours back really soon. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

That is the only problem with laptops, the chargers. I think in our house we have been through more charger connections than I don't know what! They really do not last that long at all. Well hopefully you will get your new one real soon and then you will not have to be without the internet for too long. I do not think that I would be overly bothered if I could not go on myLot for a few days but if it was the whole of the internet then yes it would kill me and I really do not know what I would do instead!

Hiya!! It's finally arrived!! Hopefully this one won't break! It was a nightmare not having the internet, i never realised how much i rely on it! A lot of my uni work is done over the internet so it has been a real nightmare, can't tell you how relieved i am to be back online now!!! xxx

Never mind you going cold turkey, what about the rest of us? No Munchkin! I'd got used to you being a regular on MyLot. Oh well, hopefully you'll have the new batter soon enough. Computers are an invention of the Devil - you think they're doing what you want, and then suddenly they let you down - usuall at the worst possible time. As to how to fill the time when you'd normally be interwebbing - I suppose you could catch up on your reading. Or do housework. Last time I was without a computer for a couple of days, I cleaned my house up in a blaze of energy - it never looked so good. Just don't be tempted to have a smoke! See you soon, Munchkin. ;-)

Haha i'm sure you've all survived without me just fine!! I'm glad i'm back now though, the charger took longer to get here than i though!! You were right about the housework, my place is now looking pretty sparkly!! lol xxxx

Oh no poor munch! That is now my worst nightmare! In fact I want to get a laptop for a backup for my desktop. I would totally freak if I couldn't use my computer or the internet! I have become so addicted to mylot especially! OMG, I don't know! I'm really thinking that I need to have 2 computers just in case! I guess you could get some extra sleep or watch the telly! I don't know! I spend so much time here that I don't even watch telly anymore! I will be having to take a short trip to see my Mom in Florida and she doesn't have a computer and since I don't have a laptop and can't bring my desktop I will be without my PC for awhile and I know I'm going to freak! But there's nothing I can do about it! We'll just have to go shopping instead! There problem solved for the afternoon. It's just the evening when I'll go nuts! Then I'll have to watch one of the tellies. She's got one in every damn room! I hope you can manage for a few days. Hurry back, I'll miss you! Stay out of trouble! Hugzzzzz, Opal

Hi Opal!! I'm back now, it was a bit of a nightmare, not just missing mylot but all the other things i use the internet for, keeping in touch with friends back home on facebook, checking my bank balance, not to mention uni sites to get my work deadlines and handouts!! I can't put into words how glad i am to have it back!! I have managed to stay out of trouble though, watched a bit of telly, did lots and lots of work and even managed to tidy my house a bit!! haha so at least my time was used quite prductively!!! I think if i was in florida i could probably live without it to be honest!! lol xxxx

Being away from MYLOT....not experienced yet...but , I will have to stay away for few days...As I will be out of city..for a week or ten days...I use A PC and do not have a laptop..And it is a remote area where the internet connection is very slow...can't help... Some of my friends do have laptop...but they have a option of using it directly with electricity...and they use the batteries only when they are on way or a power failure.. I think many MYLOT members will miss you...including me...hope you get the batteries soon...

I don't believe I could stand it someone would have to move over I would be occupying some of the family members computer at least once a day. I do hope your new one will arrive soon. How long does it take for the battery to die on a laptop. I have a desk model. I think I will stick to that or have two of them.
