What do your kids like to eat for dinner?

We sometimes have battles at the dinner table because i like alot of veggies but my oldest (5) thinks they are "yucky" and although she will eat it (pick and pick and pick at it) she complains the whole time. I tell her to be thankful for what she has to eat and that it is good for you. Well, anyway, there are some things she LOVES that i make, ie: my tuna noodly stuff (something my husband and i created), nearly any pasta stuff, spinach salad and such, but when i make things like pot pie (not the lil ones you find in the freezer section either) or something, its just "yucky" and she would rather have something like mac and cheese. do you make more than one meal for your family? i do only once in a while. like when my husband wants salmon (which i hate) or sushi then i will make the girls something else. but other than that they HAVE to eat what we eat... what do you guys think? and what do you guys feed your family? i am in need of some new ideas!!!

my girls were like that and now they eat a whole lot more than they used to (so this may pass) what if you start them off with raw veggies and some sort of dip or salad dressing. thats what we did with our 11 year old and now she absolutely LOVES ceaser salad! and yes, we always told our girls, 'this is not a restaurant, you eat what you get!'

My daughter is not picky at all and she will eat just about anything I put in front of her. My son however would eat mac and cheese, pizza or chicken nuggets every night of the week. I normally have to practically force him to eat real foods.

My 8 yr old is the only picky person in the family. We have veggies and dip at every meal and she will eat the veggies as long as she has the dip to dip them in. She will eat any pasta, hamburgers, hotdogs, pork roast, chicken, tacos, and her favorite is breakfast for dinner. She usually will eat any of the meats that I make, but the side dishes aren't her favorite. I figure if she is eating the main meal along with the veggies and dip, she is doing good. If she doesn't want what I make for dinner, she is welcome to make herself a sandwich, but I do not cook more than one meal.

My kids eat chicken, but they don't want to eat it more than twice a week. They like steak, but only 1-2 a month. Pork chops are ok, but again, no more than 1-2 a week. I can use BBQ sauce on the chicken or pork chops as long as it's very light and it can only be Kraft's Honey BBQ. I can season with Nature's Seasons or a light herb blend. They will eat pasta any time, but hate sauce, which I make them use 2 tablespoons of when I do make pasta. My daughter will only eat chicken and pork chops with ketchup. My son wants to eat only mac & cheese, but does eat what's served and he lives to eat broccoli. I make one meal that the entire family eats. Sometimes there's a side dish that one of my kids doesn't like and they don't have to eat that then. For the most part, I strive to make only things that I know the kids will eat. Every once in a great while, I try to throw something new in there to see if they'll like it, like a new way to season or cook the meat or a totally new recipe that uses ingredients I know they like. It's absolutely horrible. I talked to my Mom about it and evidently, my sisters and I were the same way. My Mom even dug up her old menus so I could try them out on my kids but I haven't yet! If one of my kids goes into a rare hissy fit and refuses to eat what I've made for dinner, then they have the choice of PB & J or cereal. What I did was, I sat down with my kids and I asked them what their favorite things to eat are. I mentioned recent dinners we had and asked how they liked each one. This gave me a good list of things they would eat and I could plan around that. For example, when one said he liked the chicken we had, I asked if he would like to have chicken that was fried here at home (no). The other one said she liked the pasta and I asked if they would like a dish that had pasta, sauce and cheese on top (yes). It sounds like you have a good variety of things they'll eat already!
