Hello everyone! I just recently did the school shopping for my children for clothes, sneakers, etc. I was shocked by the prices! The sneakers that my son wanted were over 125.00!My husband went out and bought them for my son.I was happy for how happy he was, but, I still think it is to much.
Okay, call me old fashioned but I think that is insane!
I want to buy my kids decent brand names but I am going broke!I don't get everything in brand names because I just simply cannot afford it, and plus everything doesnt need to be!
I find alot of nice things at walmart, kohls, and a lot of other general stores like them. It looks just like the expensive one except you are not paying for the name,
But for sneakers, I try to get them good ones, but I still think 125.00 is to much.I actually seen a pair for 250.00!I have three teens to shop for,and it is expensive.I usually end up spending about 300 a piece, then each month I will get them a few more items.I always feel like I haven't gotten enough! Do I spend too little or too much? Am I spending an average amount? What do you think is an appropriate amount of money?

i remember when I was a teen, I had to get certian jean because all other ones just look horrible on me. Anyways, those jeans were $100 each. My poor mom always got me at least 2 pairs for back to school and then some shirts and stuff. Lucky for her, I tried to keep my back packs for as long as I could before buying a new one and same with shoes. I didn't get a new pair each time school started. I got them when I needed them. You are spending about average price (which is really grose). The older they get the more expensive the clothes get and as teens, they MUST have the best of the best to keep up with their friends. I buy my daughter all the cheap stuff now (which really isn't that cheap - $40 for 2 pairs of jeans? - She's only 5!). I know that once she get's older, she'll want the expensive clothes so I'm trying to save for that now! Everything is becoming more and more pricey and unfortunately our pay cheques aren't getting any higher. Just when everyone thinks they are doing ok financially, the prices of things go up and we are back at square one.
I try to stagger out buying my daughter clothes. I don't do ONE big back to school shop. I buy her things when she needs them and what she doesn't she makes due with. I buy things throughout the summer as apposed to buying them right before school. It does help spread out the money situation a bit.
Good luck on trying to save money when having 3 teens!

Thank you for your response. It is definitely easier when they are younger.Like you said, 2 prs for $40. may not be that cheap, but it certainly beats 100.00 a pair!
I thiink next year I will try to start shopping earlier!
