I am trying to remove enamel paint from my baseboards and door facings, but is is a slow and tedious process. Does anyone have suggestions for removing the paint quickly, cleanly and less painfully?

Hi circumfelt am not sure but I would try white spirit that removes paint from brushes so it may well remove it from your baseboards etc littleowl

Thanks for your advice, littleowl. I will read up on white spirit and if it's safe to use on painted surfaces, I will try it.

Sorry I dont have any suggestions but have you tried doing a search online for suggestions? Unless someone can help you here I'd say thats your best bet without having to leave the house at least

You can find almost anything online. If I find a good product I can always call the hardware store and see if they have it. Thanks.

I went to look up and it seems that you are never allowed to remove enamel paint by the links I got. Someone did suggest white vinegar but not on wood. I did narrow the search and got a couple of more suggestions that might help. So here they are. This site says use acetone http://www.craftsetc.com/tips/tipsteps.aspx?tipid=27&dep=10 but if you have small children I would not try it as you have to keep the windows open and have to soak the wood. Then I found this site, http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf99165523.tip.html that suggests you go to a hardware store and get paint remover. That will melt the paint so you do not have to do so much scraping.

I have just lightly sanded the paint, not off but sanded enough to help the new paint stick. I might be lazy and skipping steps. Let us know if you find any great new ideas.

try going to lowes or home depot and looking for stuff to remove paint. i'm not sure what it is called, but my mom found this really cool stuff there. you just spread it on and leave it sit a few minutes and then the paint comes right off.
