Okay say you came across a new spieces on your expedition across the jungles of the congo. It looks like a cross between a rabbit and a fox. It has pointed ears and feathers but can't fly. It has narrow eyes to the point where it almost can't see. It is both a carnivore and a herbivore. Now what would you name that animal? You could name it anything because you currently do not know what class it is defined by in the animal kingdom. So what would you name it? I would name it quicksilver.

It's a mammal and a bird, herbivore and carnivore! I would call it the latin name, you know, like canis something, depending on its genes and what it was related to, but it's common name would be the Batman Fox, to commemorate Batman, my favorite character.
