What sort of luggage do you take?

I take a backpack. In the bottom I pack my clothes and I put all other items in the top. I carry a money belt with my valuables in like passport, tickets, money, bank card and Travel Insurance details. I pack my camera and memory cards in my handbag. I think traveling with a suitcase would be bothersome for me. Wheels can come off a bag that can be pushed along the ground. What sort of luggage do you take? Why?

As for me and my husband that need to stay for quite sometime in the coutry because of his work! We have to take suitcase that can easily pushed because we can put a lot of stuff that we need. Although its not easy for both of us because I have a shoulder bag and small backpack for him and two laptop bag.

A laptop bag must be wonderful to keep your laptop secure. I have a small backpack that I use for days out. I have a laptop backpack to carry my laptop around in. I don't take my laptop traveling overseas with me. A suitcase can be opened in your accommodation and then you will see everything that you need. The disadvantage of a backpack is that I sometimes have to take most things out of it before I can find something. Your husband's work sounds interesting.

I like backpacks too and a travelling, handy bag; those with long bag handles so I can easily put them around my arms. I like to travel with jeans and T shirt too, if I could. I feel more comfortable in them especially if I carry a backpack. Backpacks wouldn't look great on a formal attire... I don't use a money belt, but I would like to try your suggestion. It would look good together with the backpack. Thanks for that.

Hi Jenaisle. A bag with long handles would work well if I had less luggage I think. You are right that a backpack would look strange with formal clothes. I checked in my backpack at the airport in the Maldives and the check in person put a priority baggage label on it. Later I found myself sitting in business class and I had only paid for economy class. All the business class luggage came on the reclaim belt first and I got some people looking at me when I picked up my backpack.

Though I prefer a backpack too, it gets difficult while travelling with little children. Till my younger one came along and when I would travel with my older son, we would each have our own backpack and I would have another handbag for other stuff. But now I do carry a suitcase and try to travel less than I used to. I hate lugging luggage around. But if I had to...I would prefer the ones with wheels.

If I am going away for a long period of a week or more than I need to take a lot of clothes and toiletries so I need to take a big suitcase. But if I am going on a short trip I just take a carry on bag. I just went to Winnipeg for the weekend just last weekend and since I was only going to be there for two days I only took a little bag with just one pair of underwear and a clean top and socks. I didn't even take a toothbrush because I was going to visit my husband and I could just use his. I didn't want to take much with me so that I wouldn't be delayed when I got there, picking up luggage.

Hi Ellie. It is lovely to hear that your daughter travels with a backpack. If I packed a holdall it might be too heavy for me to carry. Maxine

A backpack is convenient because it can leave both hands free. Often more things can be squeezed it at the top than in an over packed suitcase.

I remember the days of travelling light. However, at my age now, it's from place to place, comforts of home. The bug will never die, but with aching joints, a lot of the fun enjoyed in my younger years is now just not possible. Yes max, our suitcases have wheels.

It really depends on what kind of traveling I'm doing, but I too favor the backpack. Easy to pack. easy to trim down what I take, comfortable to carry and not bulky. THat said, of course there is a time and place for suitcases and I have used them as well. But for my beach holidays I can safely say that you will see me with my backpack :)

I don't take any luggage as I don't travel! LOL My husband on the other hand likes to take a duffel bag. I think he likes that is not only compact, but that it can expand if needed. And as he likes to travel light it is easy for him to carry and not weigh him down.

These days I think it is best to travel light. Especially with the new airline charges for extra baggage. Since the only travel I do recently is to go to South Florida to see my mother, this isn't a problem. I take a small duffle bag and my purse. Then I usually take my daughters back pack. We don't take much. My mom has a washing machine. We put it to good use!

Always a suitcase! I like to take lots so I have a variety of stuff whilst away so out comes the suitcase!!! I like to bring lots back too so then I can pack it all in!! lol If I'm only going for a short break though I would take a holdall rather than suitcase. I also have a money belt though which is ideal no matter what main luggage I take! x

When traveling in a short trips like visiting a friend, I take my backpack. In it are my laptop, accessories and some basics (change clothes, some snacks, water). I keep my money & cellphone in my pockets. When traveling in long trips like my vacation, I have the same backpack, and what's in it basics (except snacks & water) plus some gift items. I also have an extra "balikbayan" box for my family. I always use the free 30+ kilos I can bring with me. hehehe..

Hi Maxi, I take back pack when I travell, its kind a trucking bag, still it works very vell for me. It has only one compartment, where i put all cloths, and for other items like valuable things just like you i have a small waistpack which has a lock too. And for footware there is separate section at the bottom of my Back Pack. Its so huge so no need to have multiple luggage everytime. :)

while travelling, I like to take very less luggage which makes me feel comfortable and happy, which in turn makes my journey and my trip nice. I just carry my clothes, mobile, bank card. Nothing more than that. ofcourse clothes in a handbag which is not heavy. I usually take very light clothes which weigh less. I cant carry luggage which is very heavy and which makes me not to enjoy my trip. So far I have visited many places and always enjoyed my trip with my less luggage.

It certainly depends on how long i will stay in the place... like if it is a couple of weeks stay... i definitely need to use a luggage... because i need to pack more clothes... but if it will only take a couple of days... then a back pack will do... and i keep the important stuff in my shoulder bag... and keep it always close to me...

I usually carry the least amount of luggage when I go out. I try and take a shoulder bag for all the valuables and passport etc. Apart from that I carry one airbag for my clothes and all. So I never exceed the luggage limit while going abroad. I think its always nice to travel light and you can relax with out much tension.
