Turning left on the highway

When you are turning left on a single lane highway with someone behind you and no on coming traffic - what do you do?
Slow down and turn from the driving lane you are in? or do you pull into the lane for on coming traffic so the person can go by and slow down and turn from that lane?
IF there's no oncoming traffic i tend to pull over and turn so I'm not impeding others. BUT I've noticed that theres some that don't do that...and others that do. I'm actually not even sure if its legal to do that or not but I do.
I've found that when i slow to turn and DON'T do it some yahoo decides to try and pass me while i'm turning despite me signaling my intentions. Have you ever tried passing someone who's indicating they are going to turn left?

I slow down and make a left turn from the lane that I am in. I don't think it's a good idea to pull over and turn from the other lane direction. What if an oncoming car just happened to come along while you're in their lane? I've found out that I don't have to worry much if I "inconvenience" the driver behind me just as long as I turned my signal on and I am making a safe and legal turn. But if for some reason, I think that the car behind me is going to hit me, then I might just have to take over the other lane then.

If I am on a single lane highway and there is no oncoming traffic I usually slow down and turn from the driving lane I am in,because I am not sure if it would be legal to pull into the oncoming lane to let someone pass me,and if they yahoo behind me decides to honk or try to pass me then I go slower,and I do not try to pass people who indicate they are trying to turn left because I feel it is important to wait,and I do not want to do anything that would cause me or anyone else to get into a wreck especially since my fiance is always in the car with me.

I turn from the lane I am in I don't get into the oncoming traffic lane to turn even if no car is insight. The would have to run off the other side of the roadway. As for me no I don't try to pass a car when they are making a left turn I wait until they have turned and it is clear for me to proceed.
