Basically there is not much difference between HTML and XHTML. The XHTML is based on HTML 4.01. The only differences are that you now can use elements in lowercase, you have to be much carefull about the non-closed tags. It gives you the power of XML overcoming the shor-comings of HTML. So use XHTML. But using XHTML is not everything. You also need a backbone for processing. If you want a simple static desinger site, then only XHTML will suffice. But if you need dynamicity and some processings like form processings, galleries, mouseover effects then you will need PHP or JavaScript, JSP or ASP. By the way you will also need to grab some CSS techniques to bring light-weight and easy beauties to your design.

XHTML is a language must like HTML but based on the XML markup language.XHTML is just a transitional tech, combine with power of the XML and all of the HTML.Next generation of the web is the XML but not the HTML.Most important one is that HTML couldn't be support well on the mobile device.Keep posting...

If you are creating a basic website with no database connection in it, you can use HTML. It is good, but if you are creating a site with database support, that is using login signup and all, you should have mysql supporting language. for that you should use php or any languages like that. php is a very powerful serverside scripting language. If you know php and html you can code website with the way you want.

XHTML really isn't that much different than HTML. The only thing with it is that you have to have an end tag for everything and all the codes have to be in lowercase letters. That's about the big difference and the transition wouldn't be as hard as you would think it would actually be. Either one will work though.
