My new school desks I paid $4.51 for

I'm so excited! I stumbled across an auction site for my local school district and they were selling Elem. school desks. I homeschool my two girls so these desks are perfect. I won the bid yesterday and I got 10 of these combo desks for $4.51! I gave them $5.00 & told them to keep the change (I'm so generous, eh?) I'm going to keep a few of them and going to donate about 4 or 5 to local daycare/church or whoever I find. It took me 3 trips to get them home as they don't fold. They are bigger than they look in the picture. I have no problem sitting in them and figure high school kids would fit. Ok, I'm excited and had to share. So to turn this into a discussion - and I really am interested - have you ever gotten a crazy deal on an auction before? Does your school district have auctions? I saw TV's, maps, vcr's, etc. Good evening to all!

What a great deal! ANd school desks - amazing! I remember when I was little I wanted a desk SO BAD!! I mean, I made one out of anything I could find that would work - a big box, a crate, even a table and I'd disguise it as a desk! I wanted cool drawers and hte files ... talk about a dream of a life time!! Finally got one - a big full size office desk from my dads work that he got - for whatever reason. They put hte big old metal thing in my room (that I shared with my 3 year younger sister) and was so excited to be able to sit there and my "Stuff' in the drawers and be "business", all the tablets and pencils and all! Mom filled the drawers for me tho....with my clothes!!! I was devistated! I open the drawers nad there was my underwear, pj's and all!!! Desk didn't stay for long anyway! I would love to have one of your school desks - well, I'd love to have it for my grnad daughters - they would LOVE it!! We play school and do crafts all the time. Hope your girls love them!

Thanks for BR! Nice to know my memories made a difference! I love bringing my memories to life with my grand daughters. The 8 yo loves hearing my stories of when I was a kid and when her mom was a kid! FUnny thing, alot of times my memories how I deal with my GD's - I knew I loved it as a kid, so I do it for them kind of thing. I remember what I didn't like or didn't get to do and things like that and make sure I at least give them the chance to do (or not do) those things - usually she wants to! Life comes around sometimes!

What a cute story! I know what you mean, couldn't wait to get a desk with lots of drawers and slots. You don't happen to live in Florida do you? Funny you mention crafts. I told the girls we could have one desk for strictly school work and one for our art class. They are so excited! My 4 year old asked me to put her name on the back of hers tonight. It's the little things that make me so excited!

Too bad you don't live near me, I'd bring you one. Thank you for being excited for me. When I found out I won the auction yesterday morning I called everybody to tell them. I felt like I really "won" them, not that I still had to pay. Probably because the amount was so small! They had some maps - the kind that roll down like you have in school (obviously right?) that I've got my eye on now. My oldest is in 3rd grade & youngest preschool, so we're still building up our schoolroom materials. We've got quite a bit already.

What a great deal! I'm sure they will be useful to you and that's awfully nice of you to donate the rest. I've gone to a few auctions before where you buy a lot of whatever is in the bin and was fortunate to have just one or two items in the lot worth what I paid for the whole thing. I've had other times where I've bought the lot and it was hardly worth it.

I know, I'm so lucky right? All 10 desks are in excellent condition. If you flip them over (which we had to do to load some of them) you can see a little writing underneath the desk part - bored kids. But you only see it if you crawl underneath it! Even if I keep 4 (2 for each kid) that is still a great deal. I'm sure you can tell I'm so excited and proud of my big "find". And the girls think they are so cool. I definitely got BIG mommy points today!

Those are crazy good prices. Lucky you! We don't have any, at least I'm pretty sure we don't, but then again i'm not so sure. But there is wonderful craigslist and ebay =)

Isn't crazy? My winning bid was for $4.25 + tax. It worked out to about $.50 per desk combo plus about an 1/8 of a tank of gas. Not bad. I tried to upload a picture but it didn't post on the discussion but above. They are the desks with the blue chairs.
