Nice Dish of Jambalaya - Jambalaya makes a wonderful meal. So does Gumbo!!!
OMG tamara, they BOTH are delicious!!! Gumbo is more of a soup/stew or as Rachael Ray says Stoup. Jambalaya is cooked with rice so it is almost the main course of a meal. Some make both with Shrimp, some with chicken, almost always with sausage plus whatever other meat they like. Yes, it is a southern dish but mostly a mainstay around New Orleans, Louisiana. I have watch Emeril make some that made me want to jump into the TV & have lunch with him. I just don't know which one will be considered the best!!!

I have never had either, Jambalaya has rice in it right? I like dishes with rice so maybe I will like the Jambalaya more?

IHO,you could add rice to the Gumbo & It should be good (more like Jambalaya). But, YES, from what you just said, you'd probably enjoy the Jambalaya best. It's a meal within itself where Gumbo is more a stoup. Happy eating!!!

I've never actually eaten either of these, although I've always wanted to try my hand at Gumbo. I just like the sound of the word. LOL Is it anything like Shrimp Creole? I ADORE that and have made it several times. I always have that over rice, so maybe it's kind of a combination of Gumbo AND Jambalaya? Got any good recipes? I'm always on the lookout for new taste sensations, especially when they're recommended by friends!

I actually made Jambalaya for dinner last night. I have never had gumbo though. The first time I mad Jambalaya, I made it from scratch, and used green pepper, clery, onion, garlic, one small chili pepper (it really was too hot) seed the pepper, scallions and parsley, andouille sausage, shrimp and extra long grain rice, chili powder, bay leaf salt and pepper, chicken stock. It was really good, only the pepper made it tooooooo hot. Last night I used a short cut, I used the sausage and shrimp and chicken stock, but I used Zataran Jambalaya rice mix, celery and onion. It was really good. I just had some for lunch today. I guess one day I will try gumbo.
