Cellphone Modems

I may be too outdated, but I just found out that my phone may be used as a modem. And to my shock, I got a good connection of 480 kbps from that phone. And that's my LG phone, KU250. Well, does any of us here use a phone modem too? What's your unit?"

My phone's an N81, and it can do this as well. The other problem you might face would be the data charges. If you don't have an unlimited data plan for your phone, you could be wracking up a heavier phone bill, so be careful. Alternatively, getting a data plan is cheaper in the long run if you do intend to use your phone as a modem in the long run.

I have an unlimited access stationed at home. But of course, when I'm out on the field, I have to use my phone. Here in the Philippines... Every 30 minutes will cost us 10 php or about 25 cents...

I don't know much about the data charges in your region, but in my area they don't go by time. Rather, they charge for every kilobyte you download.

When I knew the first time that there was a modem in my phone,I was surprised too.The phone is so small and there is smaller size modem in the phone. How amazing!I found it when I connect my Siemens phone to my computer via cable it notified another modem has been detected.

I knew that function of cellphone in four years ago. And that time, my cellphone's is Samsung S508 and can have a good connection and let my computer surfing in Internet. But the speed is not fast so I think it just a substitute for real modems.

Maybe the unit matters. I was actually shocked with what I saw. I even had the chance of playing an online game in my laptop.

Most cell. phones can be used as a modem... I believe it's called, "tathering"... Only thing about it is that you might wanna check with your cell. phone service provider... They might charge you extra for that service... Some would consider that as a "data" service & if you don't have it, they will charge you for the usage, either by the size(how many mb's you've used or for how long, or even worse, for both)... But now a days, most of the laptop have the capability of connecting to hotspots or wifi spots... Or, cell. phone handsets themselves have the capability of connecting to the internet... But having a cell. phone as a back up modem is not such a bad idea...
