Has anyone else ever lost their unloseable job

The security contract at the university i work at has recently changed companies. I have worked in this position for 2 and a half years and in security for six. I think I am a really good worker, I never take days off and often get called in at the last moment to cover other staff taking sickies etc. We had to re-apply for our positions and i was recommended to the new company by the uni. The CSC there even gave me a personal reference. At the interview all went well and I was virtually assured of regaining my position. Then I recieved a call saying I hadn't got the job and that it had gone to someone who they thought was more qualified and suitable. I have since found out the new guy (about 20 years younger than me) has only been doing security for about 5 months, has never worked in a uni enviroment and has to be fully trained. I am really puzzled as to how he is considered more qualified. They'll probably be asking me to be training him next. So come Sept 25th I'm getting the flick from a job I have worked so hard at. I must admit I'm feeling very disappointed and disillusioned from the whole experince. Has this happened to anyone else and how did you cope?

no job is unloseable (I don't think that is actually a word, but since you used it, I will use it as well for lack of a better term). The truth is that we are ALL replaceable at our jobs. The company is not going to cease to function if we die tomorrow. The only time this would be the case is if you were the business owner, and you were the only one who worked the business. Even then, someone else could take over the business as long as they knew what they were doing and had access to your equipment and stuff. With the state the economy is in right now, there are even more people in danger of losing their jobs than under normal conditions. This is a bad time to be looking for work. I know because I am in that position. I am working part time at a restaurant, but I am looking for full time work, and the economy sucks. The economy where I live has been terrible the whole time I have lived here, but this is as bad as I have ever seen it. If I don't find a job in the next few weeks, I don't know if I am going to be able to pay my mortgage and other things... It is sad that the economy has gotten to this point. We should all thank our government for letting gas hit $4 or more per gallon. The "trickle-down" effect from high gas prices is effecting the entire economy. I only wish our politicians were smart enough to realize this and do something about it...

Your right I know job is unloseable. It's just when you put in so much effort to do a good job and all your bosses and co-workers know that and are full of praise you feel that you deserve better. The new company was even telling me how good I was and they were really impressed etc while telling me I didn't have the job.
