Ok, now this may seem a bit odd but we have what we call a "burrito night" but in reality we are having soft tacos(flour tortilla's - shredded cheese - sour cream - taco meat - olives). A good friend keeps correcting me on this every time she is around and I tell the kids we are having burrito night.
So... What is the difference between a soft taco and a burrito? I have seen some pretty tricked out burritos with all sorts of fillings so is it beans or what?

What you describe sounds like a soft shell taco to me. Even at like Taco Bell, that'd be a soft taco.
One difference is that there is different seasoning. I know in the store next to the 'taco seasoning' packets there are 'burrito seasoning' packets, so that could be one difference. Also, the shells can be different. If you look on the soft shells some say 'burrito size' and others will say like 'taco' or 'fajita' size. Also, any time I've had a burrito, they're 'wet' burritos, so they have sauce on them. In my family, when we have burritos, that's usually the only difference. When we have a burrito, it's pretty much just a soft taco with sauce on top of them.
But who cares what others say, if you want to call it 'burrito night' go right ahead. Your friend should just stop correcting you LOL.

I agree, I keep telling her that I am never going to change the name it is far too common for us here in the house. So, you would think she'd get tired of saying it to no avail wouldn't you ? lol. Oh well it is her headache I may just have to say it a little more often now see if I can get her so tired of correcting me that she just gives in :-)

Well I'm no expert. But here is what i think the difference is. I think that what you are describing sounds like soft tacos. I think a burrito has beans and rice in it. or other stuff like that, but not the taco meat. Plus I think that burritos are made from the bigger shells and folded up different.

That makes sense, I could see the beans thing but that always threw me because I know a few people who put re-fried beans on their tacos as well. I never thought about the rice thing and that is correct I remember getting the grilled stuffed burritos and those had rice and the works just no taco meat.

Some burritos have meat as well. It's definitly folded different. I put lettuce and tomato on my tacos, but they don't have that on burritos so far as I know. I don't think there is a huge difference really. Call it what you like.
