Well here is a shot of one of my Haralred Apples out back.
With all thge heat and sunshine all summer long they ripened about a month earlier.
Usually I won't be picking them till October, possibly even late October.
We have picked a few and they are delicsou as well.
Time to get ready for apple pies and apple crips etc at Grandpa Bobs household.
Which do you prefer, pies, tarts, or something else made with fresh picked apples?
Myself I oprefer my wifes Apple crips. It is quick and easy to make using just a few apples for one that will make about 6 servings.

I am not picky when it comes to apple pie or tarts. I like them both. A friend of mine (HI Tami) used to make apple butter a lot with her apples she would get. I am afraid right now if people where I live have anything on trees they might not stay on long, we are on the lookout and watching to see what hurricane Ike is going to do but getting prepared for him no matter what.

Wow, maybe I should check mine..Though I doubt I would get even one apple worth picking..I don't know what it is, maybe because we don't spray, (I try to not use chemicals) or the chipmunks and squirrels get to them first, but we don't have much to pick and the ones we do are the size of a walnut
..If I did have enough apples, I would make pies and apple and dumplings, (a favorite around here on cold winter mornings), and dried appled slices and of course just biting into a crisp apple just picked is great too..

Oh Grandpa Bob you always make my mouth water with your posts...you have inspired me to get stuck right into the vegetable garden this year & plant everything we eat!
I really can't choose between all the apple dishes and the crisps sound wonderful!

Looks good....our apple trees have a lot of apples on them, and they are getting red. We picked one yesterday and their not quite ready, still real sour, not sweet yet. If we can get some good ones, this is the first year that its had any worth talking about, I would like to make some apple butter with them, I also like pies, and cobblers. The apple crisp sounds good...

Canning apple sauce is still on my list of things to do - I just have no idea when that is going to be but if I don't hurry that mamma deer and her twins are going to eat all the apples before I get to them.

The deers feast on my dads apples up north.
He didn't plant them for eating just for looks and snow barriers.
HAHAHAHA!
He has a few hundred various fruit trees planted in the past 15 years or so.
I like checking the trees out, the deer eat the low apples & the topsare ripened.

When I was a chikld we used a long stick with a
can nailed to it with a rag in the bottom of the can.
reach up with the pole wiggling it on a high up apple
till it fell into the can. An easy task there.

We have one apple tree on the property that must be 100 years old, it's huge, never been trimmed or anything. It gives small apples but millions of them. You can't reach but a few of the apples so we wait until they fall and pick them up. The deer are eating well right now :)

Wow, that's a lovely juicy red apple. It looks so inviting I could eat it off my monitor screen. I wish I could grow apple trees here, but I live in a high-rise apartment and we neither have land nor weather to grow apple trees. But we do get to buy fresh, sweet and crunchy apples from our supermarkets, and so I enjoy eating apples weekly. And oh, I love apple pies too and I do get to eat that from a French pastry shop.

I like apple pie and apple turnovers! Are you going to freeze some of that so you can have it in the winter? I like to put apples in cake with spices and raisins, it's great.

I'm on my way to help myself to a bucket of your wonderfully delicious apples for pies and baking, Grandpa Bob. I'm bringing some homemade biscuits for Buster to eat while I pick so he won't bark the whole time I'm there.
