I have known my best friend for 17 years. We went to middle school together, but now live 3,000 miles away from each other. How long have you know your best friend? Do you live close to him/her?

My best friend was born one year after me, and her mom and my mom are best friends, so we've known each other for over 24 years now. We still talk everyday even though we live far apart, about 500 miles. We still get along pretty well' we've had our ups and downs, but through it all we are still in constant contact and wouldn't trade our friendships for the world.

I have known mine for close to 4 years now. I don't really think the length matters much; I mean it does matter as only with time we can understand each other more, but sometimes the quality matters more than quantity. I had lots of fun with my best friend, and I really feel very proud and happy when I think back on those times. We live relatively close to each other, compared to yours (3000 miles!).

I completely agree. The quality of the friendship does matter than the quantity.

I have known my best friend all of her life. She is my younger sister. She is five years younger than I am and, when we were young, we were NOT close. You know how sisters are. They fight, they argue, all that. But we always loved each other. As we grew up, she went her way and I went mine. Suddenly, our lives became intertwined when our mother had a brain aneurysm at the age of 66. Mom suffered through so much for four years and my sister and I became her advocates. We took care of our dad and we took turns going to the hospital to be with Mom. A form was bonded then that has remained with us almost 15 years later. Dad was sick and we teamed again to take care of him and to advocate for him. Now, both of our parents are gone and my sister and I are nearly inseparable. We confide in one another, we yell at one another, we cry to one another, and we laugh together. I know if anything were to happen to me, she would be there for me and she knows I would do the same. I think that we are more open and honest because we are sisters and we do share so much. I'm not afraid that she won't be my friend anymore if I speak my mind and she doesn't worry either. We're friends for life and I'm grateful that she is there for me. I wish the circumstances that made us so close were different but I'm glad now that I have a best friend who was with me through the good times and bad and knows exactly how I feel about things.

I met my best friend 30 years ago when we were young mothers in our early 20's. We have been close friends ever since although I have moved away from our home town a couple of times. Right now we live 1,100 miles apart but she and her husband come down here to visit once a year and my husband and I go back home every year to see family...and her, of course!

I have known mine for.. 5 years! WOW, I can't believe it's been that long, I just never counted. She lives close to my high school, and it is a 25 minute to there, and we see each other all the time. It's pretty good that way and I am sure we will never lose contact! At least I hope so.

My best friend from school is now my sister in law. We met at secondary school when we were 11 so we have been friends now for 32 years. And even now we are still learning something new about each other all the time!
