Books you feel you should have read?

There is no way anyone can read every book. But we all have reading regrets. Those books that come up in conversation and leave us slapping our heads, saying "I should have read that." Which ones are yours?

Let us know how it works out. I've heard some of the buzz as well, wasn't there a movie version?

Terrific. I hate it when a books get a bunch of buzz and then falls flat in the reading. I found that with Schindler's List. After the movie and all the talk about what a wonderful story it was, I read the book and was completely unimpressed. The book, nonfiction, was dry and pretty boring. The story is amazing, but could have been told in a much more fascinating way.

The movie is already complete. I am about 3/4 of the way through and loving it.

If i feel i should read it i usually do. I was upset that the entire time i was in school i never read The Scarlett Letter so i went out and bought a copy and read it. If i have any desire to read it i usually do so there isnt a book that i can say "Man i wish i read that."

I loved it too. At the moment my to read list is three pages longer and the silly thing keeps getting longer even though i try to get those first instead getting books not on my list but then ill see a series that looks interesting and there i go adding to it.

I have exactly the same problem. It takes a severe amount of self-discipline not to keep buying new books that sit on shelves for months, begging me to read them. Just today, I was out saw a book, thought "hey, I want to read this," had to put it back. Must stick to the list. Must stick to the list. It's frustrating, but in the end I'll feel better about it. This way, hopefully, I'll get to the books I mean to get to.

Good for you. I find my list of books I want to read grows so quickly that there isn't enough time in the day to get to all of them. Then I end up in a situation where people reference a book I wanted to read but didn't get around to. At that point, I kick myself. On a side note, I loved the "Scarlet Letter." Apparently, I was the only one in my class who did. Made me very popular when it came time to study for the test. :)

I regret for not reading "pride and prejudice" when I had lots of time to kill in my freshman year. Now, it is totally overstated. I find it hard to pay attention to the book though I bought it. I know reading is good anyway. Besides, I still like fariy tale books, which are not too childish. I guess I will at least finish reading "pride and prejudice" by the end of the year. Then, my money will be worth it.

It's a good book. Bit of a tough start with the language of the time, but in the end well worth the effort. I read it when the movie came out. Personal thing, I like to read the book before seeing the movie. Didn't quite make it, but I enjoyed it when I picked it up again. I find that I have difficutly starting books written in another century due to the (granted minor) differences in language. It's amazing how much our word usage and punctuation can change in a hundred years.

How to deal with people saying bad things about me.. How to deal with dealing with the jealousies of family members and in-law issues. How to be strong in this world as a woman in today's society..

Those can be quite useful. Especially with all that is going on around us right now. There are a couple of those that I wish I had read. People talk about them changing their lives and their interactions for the better and I wonder if I should just get over my "self-help" issues. Were there any in particular you think might have been good for you?

Both of those got a lot of buzz. Having read the "Da Vinci Code," personally, I don't think you missed much on that one. It was good, but not really earth-shattering. I didn't read his other one, but everyone was talking about them for about six months. What games steal you away from reading?
