What's with the B.C and A.D chronology?

All of our lives we used the A.D and B.C chronological time frame to measure significant parts of history. What if your an Atheist? Should the history in it's entirety be questioned since it's aligned on the birth and death of Jesus?

In my philosophy class we took Christian theology out of the time frame and used B.C.E (Before Common Era), and C.E(Common Era) for a dating periods. I'd imagine if an atheist was that choosy about the name of their time periods, they would use those terms rather than Before Christ and Anno Domini.

Well I guess it implemented so well in our historical dating that it would be very hard to change it. I still use the B.C/A.D notation or B.C.E because it's just so widely spread, and any other notation would probably just create confusion.
