Happiness is entirely, inescapably subjective. Some of us have things in common that make us happy, but happiness is an individual experience. For instance - I love cooking. I love the smells, the feeling of creativity that surges over me when I'm preparing the food, the sense of the alchemical that I only seem to get when I'm combining spices over heat... but my sister hates it for exactly the same reasons that I love it. For her, it's all frightening and tedious. You need to find what makes you happy - you, in particular. You can try taking your cue from other people, but it's a matter of trial and error. Another thing - there is no such thing as fake happiness! The thing that makes you happy might turn out to be false, and incite disappointment in you. That does not mean your emotions are any less valid! So many people can't seem to comprehend that.

Good to know. I just seem to encounter so many people that subscribe to this nonsense that happiness is an illusion, blah blah blah, nihilism, blah, self-indulgent morbid nonsense, blah... it's just an ever downward spiral! I don't mean to infer that their thoughts or feelings are ridiculous - absolutely, categorically the opposite. It's their feelings of happiness and their own thoughts that people who do that are devaluing, and I can't understand it. I mean, I understand that it's a mentality, a pathological view of the world - I just don't understand where it comes from precisely. Mass media? Social and cultural conditioning? They're the only influences I can think of offhand likely to induce that sort of thinking, and I while I can appreciate the mechanism, the whole thing is totally alien. Apologies if I'm preaching (ranting. lol) to the converted, but it's just so infuriating.

Do you think any of us are really happy? We are to fat, to skinny, to short, to tall, to poor, hell even rich people aren't happy. I've heard rich peole are the most miserable people of all, and I think if I were rich I'd be happy, or mybe not. Being happy is all in your mind anyway, right.

Hi mommamusic, What makes me happy is when the sun is shining and watching my cats playing in the garden and my liitle robins sitting on the branch singing, that is not a mine thing that is nature at her best and that is what makes me happy. Tamara
