What kind of job do you currently hold? Is it contractual or permanent?

It is reported that persons holding contractual or casual jobs do experience more stress, hardships, harassment and adverse conditions than those who hold permanent full time positions. However, others treat contractual jobs more challenging and rewarding than full time jobs. What are your viewpoints and personal experiences ,if any?

I hold a permanent job. In a way if you look at it no job in that sense can be considered to be permanent. Atleast its not contractual. Permanent jobs do have their advantages and there is no doubt about it. It give you a sense of secureness, some benefits and some amount of respect. It also carries a lot of weight when it comes to its value in your resume.

I have a 'permanent' job... in as much as anyone's is permanent these days. I'm also registered with an agency for casual work should there be any available on my days off.Until last February, I just did the casual work which paid well - but I needed a reliable regular income. I like the variety of the casual work but its nice to build a stable working relationship with colleagues. My current job involves working shift and i come into contact with a lot of people so there is still variety.

I think a slow down in private sector would force companies to lay off both contract and permanent employees.
Individuals who love freedom and flexibility in their work environment, enjoy a change of scenary are ideally suited for contractual jobs. It gives an oppurtunity to explore new employment prospects and experience. People who have contract job never feel constrained by any particular job role in an organisation for long period.
Individuals who love job security and stability are the ones who opt for permanent jobs. I feel people who have permanent jobs have higher ladder of earning potential. Permanent individuals in an organistion are actually looped in the future prospects of the company....
Though i have a permanent job, but however if we look at both we have an overall view that though contractual job has many upperhand in terms of improving skills, job exposure, diversity in company culture but in terms of stability and security permanent jobs are the ones.... :)
