Hi all Now that we have dvd's and blu-ray's, cd's are slowly starting to disappear. Today I bought myself a pack of 50 cd's for music cd's.. I only use them for that.. So do you still use cd's or only dvd's and other things ? For what do you use them ? Thx

Yes, i still use cd-s even though i mostly use dvd's. I don't use blu-ray disks yet because they are still quite expensive in my country but i will probably will in a few years.

For the OP- where did you get the idea that Cd's are 'slowly starting to disappear'?? Cds & Dvds are two entirely different formats- one is for audio only, while dvds hold video files and audio ( DVD's are for movies). That is like saying music is starting to disappear! I see plenty of CD's in stores. Maybe people who buy both formats of discs use more DVDs because they are burning movies and IPods's are taking the place of CD's for a lot a people?

Here in the Philippines, we have a place called CD-R King and they sell all kinds of computer stuff. Their most popular product is the CD-R. They've got tons of blank CD's and DVD's. I can't really say that CD's are disappearing here. But I myself rarely use CD's for burning my data unless the data won't fit on a DVD, I'd put the rest of the data on a CD. Sometimes, if the data is too small, I won't burn it on a DVD and instead, I'll put it on a CD.

I am still using CDs. Using them for small linux distros (why waist a 4.7GB dvd, when it only needs 100-400mb??), to make custom installation disks for my Windows XP copy, when I change hardware, and other stuff like that. Speaking of truth: I haven't used an empty dvd for more than 1 month!

You are right, as dvd's are available at a low cost, cd's are slowly disappearing. I rarely use cds and most of the time i prefer DVD. I use cds for writing the XP bootable disc and for audio cd. I have a music system at home which support only audio cd.

I still use cds sometimes. But my car is compatible with my ipod so I normally just use that.
