Who else has avoided it today?

Every year I have watched the footage. Every year I have listened to them list off the names. Every year I end crying. For me it brings up the hurt and fear of that day. Today being the anniversary of 9/11/2001. This year I just couldn't watch the buildings tumble, listen to the replay of the news that day, I have avoided it. Maybe it is because I am pregnant and I wanted to maintain some hold on my emotions. I haven't forgottenI don't think I ever can. Anyone else doing the same thing?

I did watch it a bit actually. I haven't watched it over the past few years, probably just the 1st anniversary. But I actually personally know people who were affected by this. My husband's cousin was in NYC that day, as well as a friend of mine. Luckily they were okay, but the fact that they were there... they are a constant reminder of that day and how lucky they are to be alive and well.

I have not intentionally avoided it, but I have not watched television at all today. My daughter had Go, Diego, Go on for about 5 minutes before we left the house to go clothes and grocery shopping.

Every year I remember how long it took me to find out what was going on. I had just had my first child on the 1st of September, and the 11th was his first appointment at the doctor. I left the house, and didn't start hearing about it until I was on my way back home. Everyone was saying what a shame it was, I was clueless. I didn't find out until about 11am that day what happened. Every year, I observe the moments of silence for each of the towers, then I avoid the news. I don't like the way they talk about it so much. I know they are only trying to honor the people lost, but I don't think that the people who were lost would want us to be sad every year when this date rolls around. They would rather us to remember the way they were, not what happened to them that cut their life so short.

Not to be cold-hearted, but I haven't watched these ceremonies. It is tragic the lives that were lost, but I always think the Bushians try to use this event for their political leverage and I just can't stomach that.

I don't know if I am necessarily trying to avoid this. It happened and everyone is moving on with their lives. There are so many other things that happened that year and many other horrific events in history. I am by no means downplaying that occurrence. I remember it well and it was a scary thing but I have my life now with my obligations and I remember the people struck down in my life and I think of them on a regular basis and there are no "horns and whistles" due to their tragic deaths. I really wasn't even going to answer too much today about the events of 9-11-2001, but I figured I would speak my mind here. I realize that my mother was just one person but she was killed trying to cross a street in January of 2001. It wasn't a terrorist attack with thousands involved but only a choice few including myself will never forget that day.
