The reason why i ask this because we just open our own restaurant business. This is my hubby's dream and he plan to serve healthy and good foods.I know he loves cooking and for me he is a good cook.I always told him to be the cook and introduce his own healthy recipes which are really good instead of hiring someone else to cook.He is not a chef but he just loves cooking and he knows alot of good and healthy recipes.

Cooking for you at home and coooking to make money in a business are two different kettle of fishes. People who operates restaurants don't end up in the fire place for too long. It take out the fun in making money.

I enjoy cooking for family and friends, but it really takes a lot of time preparing and planning what to cook. A good clean tasting dish depends on what you start out with and it is rewarding to see people really enjoying your fare. You would have to be cooking for Kings and President to make money cooking like that. It is easier to make money selling fried chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs.

It takes a good cook to be a chef. A chef is a person (your husband) who runs the kitchen and the kitchen staff. Good luck with your restaurant.

Chef is just a title. People can cook better than a chef. For example, even if you are not a tearcher, u may teach something better than a teacher. I hope each endeavor of u will be a great success and the business will be prospering.

I think to be good cook must be a chef. If interested in cooking, we can learn to cook and become good in it. My uncle loves to cook and he is very good in cooking. I can give five stars for his cooking. But he is not a chef. He work as bank manager. He always will create new recipes. I usually will learn to cook from him.

All you need is to cook well. Forget about the chef thing. Just cook well, people will eat the food and tell you that you're a great chef. Being a great chef means pleasing people and to do that all you need is to cook good.

No, but it goes without saying that if you can create you're way ahead of the cooking game. I cook for my family but I'm no chef, that means I've taken the liberty of learning myself instead of someone teaching me. With all the cooking shows on TV your hubby could probably learn some other stuff. I know I have.

I know many people including myself that are fabulous cooks but NOT trained chefs...You dont need a simple certificate to be a fantastic cook...especially if its YOUR restaurant!! I say GO TEAM!!

If you own your own restaurant and cook the food, then technically that makes you the chef of that restaurant. What's really important isn't professional training or some piece of paper. What's important is the food- if it is good enough that people will pay for it and then come back to get more, then who cares if you've got some fancy chef certification? I've actually noticed that a lot of the professional chefs on the food network are not formally trained. They just loved cooking, opened their own restaurants, and got so good at it that they became famous. Some of my favorite restaurants are owned and operated by people who don't have professional training. So no, it really doesn't matter whether you're a "chef." Good luck with the restaurant!

i don't think so, but i believe that one must have talent to be a good cook. I am not a good cook and as a matter of fact i can only cook fried dishes, I envy those who knows how to cook and can cook well. I guess good cook are born. On the other hand being a chef needs to be a good cook first then for them to be a chef there are some studies or courses i guess for them to become a chef. Happy mylotting!

I don't think os at all. From my experience, and hearing what people around me say, most people don't prefer gourmet, fancy, chef-prepared foods. I think most people like homestyle, laid back places and foods to eat. :)

Well, one thing, you would need to learn how to cook that is for sure. And, if you can do this, you are like a chef.. But, to cook certain dishes, you would need to know how to cook..

Hello there, just to say that I dont agree with you. I think, you dont have to be a chef to be a good cook. This is because, one only needs to be full of interest, creative, inquisitive to be able to cook fresh, healthy and inventive food. To be a chef, we have to be enrol in a certain culinary school to get the certificate to be called a chef, but to be a cook, one needs only to learn, perhaps from the grandmama or a distant relative to get the gist of the recipe before improvising it into a tastier, healtier and nicer looking cuisine. And waaalllla.. you can name the dish after you.. And today, in the information world, there are many recipes over the internet that one needs only to mix and match to create a fusion of food and you can serve it in your newly open restaurant.. ;) By the way, good luck and all the best in your new restaurant business.

No, I don't think so. In my opinion, being a good cook is not about what you learned from fancy schooling but more about the passion to cook per se. I'm now a fairly good cook (you just have to look at how big my hubby's tummy got after our years of marriage LOL) and I only learned how by studying recipes and watching cooking shows. I also feel that being a good cook is an innate thing. You either have that intuition on what tastes great or you don't. You also take time and the interest to experiment with new recipes until you get them right. So good luck on your restaurant business! As long as your hubby has the passion to serve good food, I'm sure his cooking will be a success to your customers :)
