Gee I never thought about that, I guess they would have a few for a lot of camera equipment, I always carry my little camera with me whereever i go but my new one I reckon would be a problem as it is a bit big with the two lenses....

I was just checking into this very thing yesterday. I am hoping to be making a trip in December, and will be taking my camera and laptop with me. I also checked with my brother-in-law who is a commercial airline pilot. I will be checking my suitcase, however, I will be carrying my laptop and camera bag with me onto the plane. I have a DSLR camera, lens, etc., and as it was a gift last Christmas from my s/o, no way would I check that with my luggage. There is no danger to the equipment when going through the checkpoints.

I have taken to using a carry on suitcase to pack my camera bag and laptop in and then take my camera out on the plane. I would not check my camera or laptop. The Airlines have video omnitors on the suitcases form the time they get them until they hand it over to TSA. The TSA Union will not allow their employees to v=be video taped. They claim privacy rights for the employees. My son was returning from Iraq and flew through Alanta. These guyes carried their bag to the plane to be loaded and and when they changed from Military to Civilan planes in Alanta their luggage was unloaded and checked by security (No Video Record) and then handed over to the airline (Video Record). Many who had valuable items in their checked luggage reported some loss. Such things as laptops, binoculars, cameras, GPS, CD, DVD and expensive sunglasses. No one was w3atching the Security people .

My son-in-law always shipped his stuff home to my daughter when they were getting ready to deploy back home. That way he didn't have to worry about any of it being 'lost' in the trip home.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I would hate to entrust any of my equipment to the airlines. I think I will be traveling by car or bus even though flying is faster and I enjoy it I have had too many things damaged or lost by them. Also the greyhound could be interesting with all the stops it makes could make for some nice shots lol.
