I guess 'potterhead' would be a good word to describe me. I started just reading them to my kids, but now I think I enjoy the books even more than they do. One of the things I think is so brilliant about the story and why I enjoy them is that JK introduces seeminly innoncent things in one book or part of the story that become essential later on. For instance, Dobby. In the second book he was really just a nuisance, but then became a really important character later on. Dumbledore's deluminator he uses in the first book, then it becomes a factor in the last book. That sort of thing just makes me smile - its brilliant. The other thing I think is great is the way JK uses slightly strange versions of ordinary words to describe something magical. Like 'wingardium leviosa' obviously a play on wings and levitate. Sometimes I have to laugh at her made up words. Also, let's face it, it just has all the elements of a great story. A bunch of misfit underdogs as heroes. A wise and powerful mentor. Good vs. evil. Friendship, love, betrayal - it's got it all.

I really agree with what you say tthom. i think JK Rowling has one of the best storytelling abilities of any author today. I love how she holds onto the minor details that many people may not pick up on or think would be important. I don't think too many people expected to see Dobby again (I did haha) or some of the other characters like Lupin he disappeared for a little while to show up once more. She has a great way of keeping the attention of any reader of any age.

Yup I'm a Harry Potter Fan no doubt. I love the story. I read the first 4 book in 1 whole week. I got the last 3 books on hardbound and finished each in 2 days after I got them. I get the books the day it is released. I think Harry Potter is popular because he "grew up" in the eyes of readers. the story is not kiddie and it "grows" with Harry. The movie also boosted it's popularity. i like the way the story is written that it touches on everyone's lives intertwined till the end. Like Snape, for a time, there is something good about him. Circumstances made him bad eytc.

I think the reason for the popularity is that it sparks interest in many people. It focuses on an aspect of the human mind that everyone is intrigued with. I mean who hasn't thought of what it would be like to have magical powers? And then to fight a big bad evil thing like Voldemort it just adds to the interest and intrigue.
