Hurricane Ike is already affecting us here in South Carolina. The price of gas has jumped up to $5.23 or more a gallon in parts of the state. Here in my town it is still $3.56 or so at most pumps but just across the river the satiation have long lines as people try to fill up before the gas runs out. At some stations they ore only aloud to get 8 gallons. I sent my grandson out with his sister's car to fill up and he already had his car full. This is going on just across town from me. The stations here haven't started to raise their prices yet. Has Ike affected the gas prices where you are yet? http://www.wltx.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=66097 The average U.S. retail price for regular gasoline was at $3.671 Thursday, according to the Oil Price Information Service, auto club AAA and Wright Express. Hurricane Ike, following last week's Hurricane Gustav, was expected to blow ashore early Saturday somewhere between Corpus Christi and Houston. Some forecasters predict it will strengthen from a Category 2 storm, with winds near 100 mph, to a Category 4. Ike ripped through Cuba and killed at least 80 people in the Caribbean. And it's affect on America's fuel production is largely to blame for the increases we're seeing. Texas is home to 26 refineries that account for one-fourth of U.S. refining capacity. Most are clustered along the Gulf Coast near such cities as Houston, Port Arthur and Corpus Christi. Exxon Mobil Corp.'s plant in Baytown, outside Houston, is the nation's largest refinery.

Right now from what the weather report is talking about. Ike is heading right for the city that houses most of the oil for the US. The price of oil might go up some more if they feel that Ike could really cause some damage. Lets just keep our fingers cross that it doesn't. From what Ike did to Cuba and the Islands it's possible that it could do the same to Texas. That is the thing about storms they are unpredictable an the only thing that can be done is to wait and see what it will and will not do.

HI dee, The gas price in our town in not affected about this but that is very sad when it will reach up to $5 plus a gallon! I am hoping and praying that it will not damage a lot of properties as well as will not kill lives! I have a lot of friends in Texas and I am praying for their safety as well as other people!

My granddaughter called after she got to work this morning at 9:00 am and gas was still around the 3.50 mark and a few stations had lines but nothing like it was across town. I don't understand the big difference with just a few mile separating the 2. I hope your friends make it through Ike ok.

I heard today that the gas was going up around the places where the storm was to hit and it had already gotten to over $5 in Texas today - just when all the people were evacuating. Sounds like price gouging to me! I filled up my car today and it was only $3.49. At the places closer to me, it is $3.53 and $3.52. It has been going down every couple days around here.

The price of gas has also been going down pretty good around here too until last night and Ike started getting closer to the coast of Texas.
