I almost got into deep depression once just because of my habit of making spelling mistakes. Not only while typing but while writing on paper as well!!! I feel like I am descending down the stairs all the way to my First grade ... (I am in college right now) I make loads of spelling mistakes like a 5 year old kid!! I don't know why is it happening. But Its something very terrible!! In my college while taking down the notes in lecture my friends who sat next to me in the classroom started to keep an extra eye on my note book as well.. for CORRECTING MY spelling mistakes!!! I myself made joke on me ..saying .."I might have bunked most my dictation classes in my first grade!!".... I don't know why I have started getting conscious and lack of confidence in me due to this. I even do not know how to over come this problem of mine. Please help!!

Hello. I guess, a number of individuals lately find hard to spell the correct terms because young ones lately tend to use the chat-SMS language where everything is done in short cut. The best way really to overcome such problem is to practice writing again or typing in some cases and bring with you a dictionary and not just "copy-paste" the terms so that there will be retention. Hope you will eventually overcome such problem.

Have you always had trouble spelling or is this something new? I was pretty good at spelling, but there are some words that I struggle with. If it is only a few words you struggle with, look them up and study them, just like you were leanring to read..If it is many words, there are books out there that have spelling tips to help you to spell.. Don't be so hard on yourself though, this may be your weakness, but you probably make it up in other areas..Like if you are good in math..Myself, though I am great in reading and writing, put math in front of me and I barely get it, adn that is after I study it..

Nothing that new.... I am wondering that I am in college now why the hell I am still having problems in spelling the words..?? It is actually my forgetful nature I guess .. that's what my parents say. As I myself know that I knew the spelling of that word but I just forgot it .. will you believe I once forgot the spelling if "date"... I was writing "dait" instead of date!! huh This is what is actually freaking me out that I am forgetting the spellings of even most simplest words in the dictionary.

I guess this is the result of the more favored shortened words in SMS, shucks! I'm one of those guilty people who have been using these shortened words on formal papers as well. I'm glad I always triple-check such documents before sending them or I'm doomed! LOL! I'm not sure if you're "one of us" though. But I guess you'll just have to practice writing more. Type all those thoughts on an empty document file and see if you come out with misspelled words. Do this when you're not busy to get those fingers and brain going (*wink). Also, avoid copying-pasting, if you can type the sentences (if you have time), do so. Also, double-check (or triple-check) everything prior to having someone else read it, it's worth the time you'll see... I hope you'll get through this. Oh I'm sure you passed all those dictation classes in first grade, teachers don't fail cute first-graders! LOL!

he he he .. ya no body fails them.. I always make sure not use short forms when I have to text any one.. And while writing one paper I never use short forms at all.. Some times due to laziness once in two weeks I indulge in short forms SMSing.. that too at morning around 1am or 3am as some friends of mine are crazy people who text me asking .."Whats up?.." !!!!! Why the hell are they asking my "Whats up" at 3am in the morning??.... And thanks now I don't feel alone cause of your people.. Who has to double check there notes.. pheww.. thanks for your response.. muah!!

Hi Stella Dont be depressed, well if u look at my post, discussion, replies u will not only find lot of gramatical but spelling mistakes as well. But its nothing to get depressed or sad on it. And no need to be extra concious on it to me the reason of these are 1) Too much posting at mylot which dont have spell check 2) too much use of computer ( word or other sofware) which have spell check so u just type and computer mention that u type wrong and either make it right or give option to amend it, so one dont work hard to memorise it 3) use of sending SMS, we use short words and mixture of languge, its adding into it 4) lack of reading book/magazines so are not getting familiar of new words 5) Using Both American English as well as British English and spelling are differnt in both and many other The way to improve it 1) Stop using Spell check at computer and concentrate on what u r writing 2) Use Paper Dictionary to search for words/their meaning and spelling 3) Read magazines and Book, specially Readers Digest 4) while typing look at keyboad as what letter u r punching i think its enough just relax and donr get tensed, when u r tensed u cant imagine beyong limits and cant think well take care

Is this a recent problem? If it is, it might be something more serious and should be checked out by a doctor. I know some people get memory loss and language problems on the onset of some medical conditions. Or, if you're taking any medications, that is a possible factor as well. I've stayed away from some medications in the past because they do mess up your brain function somewhat. Are you uncoordinated sometimes? Dysgraphia is a disorder where people have difficulty with hand-eye coordination, but it also effects the ability to form letters correctly. I suggest going to your school's writing center and see if they have any tips. What helps me sometimes to remember the spelling of certain words is to use them a lot in writing. I also tend to write a lot on a private online journal. It's so helpful because it's not something that I need to hand in or let anyone else see, so there's no pressure. I can go back and read and see if I could've worded things differently. Also, sometimes, when I learn a new word, I tend to write it out, with the definition, so I can remember it.

I don't think it is that serious problem.. But yes I've started noticing it since 4-5 months.. I even find it hard to remember the spellings even if I have read it 6 times. To remember some spellings I read it 4-6 times while I am reading any book or something but I just can't remember it. I have no problem in word formation... but I just can't remember it and its mostly with spelling cases.. and I should admit that I do not have a sharp memory but thing with my spelling ability is really freaking me out... People around .. family and teachers say its just the lack of concentration.. nothing else... I don't know whom to believe..

Maybe you are using too many shortforms while chatting on MSN or sms-ing other people. Check your work again after you have completed it. Or bring a dictionary with you along to lecture to check the words you can't spell.
