Where do you spend the holidays? How do you divide your time with the relatives? This can be a sticky situation in many marriages. Personally, my husband and I live about 2 and 1/2 hours away from both sets of parents. They both live in the same city. It makes for a long day to drive there and visit both sets of parents and then turn around and go back home again on the same day. So, we spend Christmas Eve with one set and then stay overnight and spend Christmas day with the other set and then drive home. This, of course, is in theory. Oftentimes we have had to make another trip and have our celebration with one set on a completely different day than Christmas. Actually celebrating AFTER the actual holiday is great! Less Traffic. and best of all, AFTER CHRISTMAS SALES! We have ended up purchasing much nicer gifts this way! With Thanksgiving, we have alternated years with each side of the family. Who wants to eat 2 thanksgiving dinners in one day? A person can only take so much turkey!:) How about you? Where do you spend the holidays?

Every Christmas time, we used to always attend the family reunions happening in the province; particularly consisting of relatives in my mother's side. Until now, it's still a tradition in our clan. But sad to say, ever since I got married, our holiday seasons are spent and divided between going to my parents and to my in-laws. Say, if we celebrate Christmas with my parents, we'd certainly be with my in-laws during the New Year. I find it quite more expensive and exhausting since me, my husband, and our daughter make a lot of trips to and from her grandparents. For this holiday season, I have a feeling that it will be quite different because I guess by that time, either I'm totally displaced from my present job or we're going to be so busy wrapping up the business. So, I still haven't made any plans for this year because I'm still not sure of what's happening next in our lives, because of this status of my job. All my life it's been so hectic during these times in our families. I do hope that someday, when we finally have our own house and parcel of land in the province, we'll be able to spend some solemn family time with only me, my husband, and our daughter during Christmas. Or for a change, it could also be that our relatives will be the ones to visit us in our own house during holiday season.

We have spent christamas with the inlaws for donkeys years and its done us no harm yet.We all pull together and before we know it the day has arrived and we are all having a good time.I see that family christmases can be stressful,I know when everyone gets cooped up together they get on each others nerves, but we just get a few board games out,or we play charades,a game of cards goes down well too,we have a jar that we save all our loose change in all of the year round and we use it over the festive period to play cards with, winner takes all, sometimes the pot can have at least a tenner in it,then on Boxing day the horse racings on ,all the big meets, and I go off to the bookmakers to place a few bets, the missus she stays in and makes a good cold buffet type meal for us all .

Well I live with my fiance right now. This discussion has come up between us already. We agreed to spend Thanksgiving with his family and Christmas with my family. Thats going to be rough getting down to my parents on Christmas Eve, with traffic being so heavy, but it will be well worth it!

Thanks:) Sometimes it gets hard to choose how to handle this. There are so many people's feelings involved. Sounds like you've made some good decisions early on. Good for you!
